Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I have a 2014 Nissan Rogue Select with a bare roof. no rails or raises at all We occasionally travel and are looking for roof rails to provide us with extra space for suitcases and what not. I am also looking for something that can be taken off when not in use. Can you recommend what products I would need for this? Thank you.

Since your cargo carrying requirements are occasional I can offer you a couple of different options to consider.
One route is to use a hitch-mounted cargo carrier. Hitch carriers are easier to load and unload since they are not up high on your roof. They will also have less impact on your fuel economy since they will catch less wind. If your Rogue has a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch you can use a Class II carrier; a link is provided at right to a variety of 1-1/4-inch Class II cargo carriers, which include both enclosed and flat tray types. If you have a 2-inch Class III hitch you can use a 2-inch Class III carrier; please refer to the other link. If your Rogue does not have a hitch then I suggest the 2-inch # 75902, the most popular such unit for your vehicle, for its 300-lb tongue weight capacity.
Another option is a roof-mount cargo bag that does not require you to install a roof rack. We offer a range of such cargo bags, such as the Rightline Sport 3 XL Waterproof Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S30, which can attach directly to your naked roof and which offers 18-cubic feet of capacity. With this we suggest the non-skid roof pad # RL100650 to protect your paint and also a tire step for easier access, part # HE4040.
If you prefer a roof rack we offer several types which can be seen on the link provided. For example, Rhino-Rack offers their black aero bar system consisting of parts # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK396.
