Are The B&W Companion Hitches Universal?

Question:

I have been given the Companion 5th Wheel Slider from my Brother-in-law. We thought they were universal but i have a Ford and he had a GMC... Is there an adaptor or replacement base base that will fit the Ford? Most assuredly perplexed.

Hello Michael, thanks for reaching out. The B&W Companion hitches are not universal. They make difference versions for different manufacturers puck systems. So there are different bases for Ford, Ram and GMC/Chevy since their puck spacing is different.

The good news is the head units are universal. So you just need a new base for your GMC, you can re-used the head unit and you will be good to go.

I just need to know what year your GMC truck was made, and I need to know your bed length.

Hey Michael, were you able to find the right base for your Ford so you could reuse the Companion head unit? Knowing what worked could help others trying to match their hitch to a different truck.
