Should 2018 Ford F-150 Add Gooseneck Hitch For Occasional Gooseneck Towing

Updated 02/19/2024 | Published 02/17/2024

Question:

I have a 2018 ford f-150 Stx XLT 4x4 5.3 V8 with a 6inch suspension lift, 35 inch tires and 22 inch wheels. I was considering adding a hitch to the bed to pull goose neck with a 25 ft deck and 5 ft dove tail loaded with 3 UTV side by side vehicles each weighing about 1,000lbs. My truck does not have a trailer brake controller in the cab. Is it a good idea to add the hitch to my truck for only towing this setup every once in a while?

Even if you are only going to be towing every once in a while with your 2018 Ford F-150, you will indeed need a gooseneck hitch. You'll want to make sure your truck can handle the weight, and since you will only be towing occasionally, go with an underbed gooseneck so your F-150's bed remains free for use. For that you'll need the following:

- B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BW77FR

If your F-150 is a short bed you will also want to ensure you have clearance by using the 4" Offset Ball for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitches # BWGNXA4085.
