Can My 2024 Ford F350 SRW 6.7L Diesel Safely Haul A Grand Design Influence 3003RL?

Updated 12/04/2025 | Published 12/03/2025

Question:

I am considering a purchase of a 5th wheel Travel Trailer. Grand Design Influence 3003RL The GVWR of the trailer is 18,000 Lbs. The Hitch weight is 2500 lbs. I plan on using a Gen Y goose pin box. My truck, 2024 F-350 Short bed. SRW 4 x 4 6.7L Diesel. its rated to tow 22313 lbs. taken into consideration 600Lbs of passengers and cargo, using Fords Calculator. The Pin Weight capacity is 3347 lbs. again per Fords calculator. Using the 20 rule, the full weight capacity would be 253 lbs over Fords Calculated max pin. But, that would be putting 5500lbs of cargo in this rig. I cant see that happening Just wanted to ensure, Would this truck be safe in towing this Rig?

Hey Bill, thanks for reaching out. On paper, the numbers look tight because the 20-percent rule assumes the trailer is loaded all the way to its 18,000-lb GVWR. In reality, most folks never load that heavy or that far forward, so your actual pin weight will almost always be lower than the worst-case math suggests.

As long as your scaled pin weight plus passengers and gear stays within the truck’s payload and rear axle ratings, the F-350 SRW can handle this setup. Load it sensibly, factor in the Gen-Y Goose Box weight, and get a CAT scale reading. If the numbers check out, you’re good. I imagine you will be fine.

That being said, I can definitely help you track down the correct Gen-Y goosebox for your rig. There should be a sticker on the pin box with the serial number and model number. Get me those and I can make sure you get the right one.
