Are chains required with this hitch setup like other gooseneck adapters.

There are certain states that will require safety chains to be used with the Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System with Adapter part # AM3200 such as California but not every states does so you will need to check with local officials to see if they are required where you'll be towing. That said, we do offer a kit for this exact purpose, the Andersen Ultimate Safety Chain Kit with Clevis Hooks part # RM3230.
