Question:

I have a 2012 Toyota FJ cruiser, with an Australian market Yakima 3 bar rack and a hard shell Autohome roof top tent. The crossbars are oval,11/8inch x 3 1/8. I meet the requirements for bar spread and overhang using the rear and middle crossbars, however the front overhang 42 1/4 will be resting on the front crossbar, unmounted. I have minimal usable bar extension beyond the hard shell. About 1 1/2inch with the end caps on, about 2 1/2 with them removed. Questions: Will the clamps work my crossbars oval size? Can the locks be oriented to the outside rather than inside as shown? Should I order a third clamp assembly to secure the front overhang to the front crossbar? Is one available? concern is vibration How much bar space do the clamps consume? The picture shows an 8foot rule in the location I propose placing the awning. Thank you!

The clamps will work with round, square, aero, elliptical(oval), and most factory crossbars.

I recommend keeping the clamps oriented the way they are. Having the solid non-moving part of the jaws on the inside is a safety feature that will help keep the unit in place if there is a clamp failure.

You can order a third clamp and mounting bracket if you feel like your setup requires the extra clamp. It will give it a more secure hold.

The jaw width on the clamps will take up close to 2-3/4 of an inch of cross bar space.
