Should I Go With The 16k RP94716 Or 20k RP94720 Reese Goose Box For My Trailer?

Question:

Considering the fact that the 16K is the same bolt pattern as the RP85FR 20K, is there any reason NOT to purchase and have the higher capacity hitch which may assure a little less strain on the hitch itself? Our 5th wheel GVWR is 15,500 lbs. Thanks

Generally I would say that there isn't a reason to go to a higher capacity than needed, but as the price difference between the 16k Reese Goose Box 20k Reese Goose Box # RP85FR is so little, there isn't really a reason to not go for the more heavy duty option. Now with that said, this does not mean your trailer will be able to handle more weight as the frame is not designed to carry it. However, if you ever upgrade to a heavier trailer and still want to use a Reese Goose Box, you will not need to buy another one. As long as it is the same pin box number, of course.

So in my opinion, I'd go for the 20k # RP85FR.

What is the weight difference between the 20k and the 16k

@Jc The difference is only 50 pounds between them, so not a whole lot. I have the weights listed below: 16k Reese Goose Box RP94716 - 215 pounds 20k Reese Goose Box # RP85FR - 265 pounds As a side note, both of these are designed for the 1621 pin box.
