From what my contact at Tekonsha tells me, Ford didn't begin installing the brake controller connectors in the F53 chassis until the 1999 model year so in your case, you'll have to hardwire the brake controller.

If you don't already have a brake controller picked out, I'd recommend the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160. The Primus is a proportional controller that uses an internal accelerometer to determine how quickly the tow vehicle is braking. The controller will then send the proper amount of power to the trailer brakes so that the tow vehicle and trailer stop at the same rate for reliable and predictable braking.

In order to install the controller, you'll need our brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7 which includes an adapter to convert an existing 4 pole trailer connector to a 7-way, as well as 25 feed of duplex cable along with all the hardware and circuit breakers needed to complete the installation. Due to the length of a motorhome, you'll need additional wire, which we sell by the foot as part # 10-2-1. If you don't already have a functional 4 pole trailer connector, you can install one using part # 18252.

I'll link to some resources that will help you through the installation.
