Troubleshooting Lippert Tread Lite Powered RV Steps Not Extending Or Retracting

Updated 10/01/2021 | Published 09/25/2021

Question:

My Lippert Tread Lite steps won’t extend or retract. When I shut the door and it clicks, I can pull the steps out manually. I hear the click again and the steps are locked in. There is no motor noise at all. Same with retracting. Is it the controller?

To begin you will want to begin testing the different circuits of the Step Control Module # LC334850. The brown wire goes to the door switch to tell the steps when to open and close. The yellow wire runs to an ignition switch so that the steps know to retract when the ignition is on and the door closes regardless if it has been switched to remain open. The white wire travels to the hold switch that holds the steps open even when the door closes. The purple wire is for the porch light. The Green wire is the chassis ground and the red wire provides power to the unit.

The Motor for Lippert Tread Lite Powered RV Steps # LC183058 has a 2 prong connector that connects to the control module. This can be removed and bench tested for operation. Or you can use a Test Light # PTW2992 to test the voltage going into the connector from the control module.
