Question:
Im trying to decide between the curt echo and the tekonsha prodigy. I am using a 2016 4Runner and pulling a 1,500 lb tear trailer. A few similar negative internet reviews on the echo are that it hard brakes with every little bump in the road.inch The negative similar negative reviews on the tekonsha are that it randomly becomes unpaired, leaving it with no brakes.inch Are these reviews legitimate? Either way, I want the safest controller. What do you recommend?

Starting with the Curt Echo Wireless # C51180 it only activates the brakes based on the intensity you apply the brakes, and will not apply the brakes by hitting a bump in the road. I guess if you were to hit a rather large bump that caused you to hit the brakes harder for a moment, that could cause hard braking, but I have never heard of this being an issue.
Moving on to the Tekonsha Prodigy RF # TK94FR will loose its braking ability of the remote is unpaired. Making sure that your trailer connector is clean and securely connected will 99% of the time keep it so you do not have any problems.
Between these two controllers I recommend the # C51180 as both controllers are equally as safe when setup properly, but the Echo works with multiple trailers where the Prodigy RF gets installed on the trailer and will only work with that one specific trailer.
I included videos for both of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
