How To Power a 12V Refrigerator On An RV While Driving

Question:

My current popup campers 12v fridge is wired to the center pin of our 7 pin connector. My tow vehicle uses this pin for the reverse lights, giving me a reverserator. Since I dont drive around in reverse, our fridge is usually warm by the time we make it to camp. Im considering re-wiring the current junction box that uses crimped end splices with a junction box like part #38656. This should help clean up the install and ease maintenance. If I were to connect the 12v fridge to the 12v / aux / charging pin from the tow vehicle, are there considerations I should make? The brakes and our trailers battery are already connected to this pin . Should I be worried about total amps, wire gauge, tow vehicle alternator, etc?

The best way to power a 12V refrigerator while in transit would be with an on-board battery. The battery charge line circuit which is the one ran through the trailer connector you're referring to likely won't be able to provide enough power. Therefore, you'll need to obtain an on-board battery and then battery charger for this. I recommend the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger part # RED96FR.
