Troubleshooting Severe Suspension Sag With Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System Installed
Question:
Have Blue Ox weight distribution system on my new RV. Problem I have is after being hooked up and ready to go, the front of my tow vehicle is still high in the air. I tried link 7,8,and 9. Little difference. Any suggestions? Hauling a 32 ft travel trailer with a Ford Expedition.

It sounds like your Blue Ox SwapPro Weight Distribution System # BXW1000 may not be set up correctly causing it not to distribute weight properly.
First things first with your Ford Expedition and trailer parked on level ground you will want to disconnect the trailer from the vehicle and level it using the trailer jack. With the trailer level measure from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler.
Now measure from the ground to the top of the hitch ball on the # BXW1000. From the top of the hitch ball to ground needs to be 1-2" taller than the trailer coupler measurement to level the system. Depending on your vehicle you may need a shank that allows more adjustment like the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Shank for 2" Hitches # BXW4002.
Once the system is level make sure that you are tightening the system enough. The recommended starting point is having 3 links showing below the lift brackets. If you do not add enough tension the system will not be able to properly distribute weight.
If you check all of these things and are still experiencing significant sag, you will want to make sure the system is rated for the total tongue weight of your trailer. The # BXW1000 you have is rated for total tongue weight up to 1000lbs.
To measure the total tongue weight of your trailer you will need to use a tongue weight scale like the etrailer # e99044 with the trailer fully loaded and ready to tow. Additionally you will need to add the weight of any cargo added behind the rear axle of your Expedition.
If you find that your total tongue weight exceeds the 1000lb weight rating of the # BXW1000, you will need to move up to a high rated system like the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW1500 which has a 1500lb total tongue weight rating.
