How To Raise a Trailer Without Flipping Axle
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Hi, I have just upgraded the axle on my pop-up camper from a 3500 lbs to a 5200 lbs axle and 5000 leaf springs. The issue I ran into is clearance in the wheel well, since I had to increase from 14inch to 15inch wheels. I need to lift the camper a little to make sure I have clearance. I do not want the axle under the springs as that will lift it more than I want. The springs do not currently use any shackles, just direct mounted in the hangers 1 3/4 inch double eye with 9/16 bolts. Is there a shackle system I can use on the front and back of the springs to gain some tire clearance? Your help is much appreciated.

In order to raise a leaf sprung axle without changing the orientation of the axle tube in relation to the leaf spring pack, you really only have one option which is the Tandem Axle Lift Kit part # RR23QX and this provides 2-1/4" of lift unlike the axle over/under kits which provide upwards of 3-4" of lift.
Please note, for a single axle trailer application I do recommend using shackle straps like part # TRSL275 on the rear leaf spring hanger in order to allow for proper axle articulation but keep in mind this will not raise the trailer.
