If your intent is to have 24 volts of output, you can wire 4-12 volt batteries together.
In order to connect your 4-12 volt batteries to get 24 volts of output you need some wiring and ring terminals like parts # 10-1-1 and # DW05705-1.
You're going to connect your power wire to the positive post on one battery and run a wire that connects that same post to the positive post on the second battery. Then connect the negative posts on both of those batteries to the positive posts on the other two batteries. Finally connect the negative posts on those last two batteries to each other and then ground one of those negative posts to a good ground location.
