Is There Maintenance Required With Friction Sway Control Units
Published 07/05/2019 >
Question:
I have a sway bar for my 16foot fiberglass travel trailer and have found it quite helpful. Im just wondering what kid of maintenance such an item requires, if any, and what is the expected life span? How can I tell when it has reached the point of ineffectiveness and needs to be replaced? thanks

Friction sway control units like the Curt part # 17200 don't really require any maintenance or have a shelf life that I could give. Since it's such a basic design and it's just friction between metal all you have to do is keep the correct tension in the kit. No lubrication is ever needed as that would defeat the system. If for some reason you just can't tighten the kit down enough to get the friction you need that's how you'd know it's time to replace it.
