Question:
I have Momentum Toyhauler. Was overweight from new on hitch. It is first year. Right now about 4700 on hitch and 17000 on axles. Thinking of converting to Three axle. If I simply put center axle where center of wheelbase is now will it take much weight off pickup. If I could take off 1000 lbs I could put auxiliary fuel tank in. Now I am over on axles.

When going from a tandem axle trailer to a triple axle trailer you want to install the center axle where the current center hanger is for your tandem setup. This means you have to remove both of your current axles to position them properly. This gives you the additional axle support you want without throwing off how much tongue weight you have relative to the trailer weigh.
We have triple axle hanger kits like the part # APTT5 you could use too. You should note that you will be increasing the axle capacity but not the overall trailer capacity since overall capacity is more than just the capacity of the axles.
