Can Regular Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution be Used on Trailer with Underslung Coupler

Question:

I have a blueox swaypro system with the 1,000# rated bars. I am upgrading my travel trailer to a JayFlight 29RKS. I believe that trailer has an underslung coupler. I calculate my tongue weight range to be 814-914 lbs. First, is the underslung hitch head necessary and why? Second, do you think the bars I currently have will work for the new trailer? Thanks

If you now have a trailer that has an underslung coupler then yes, you will need to use the SwayPro for an underslung coupler instead of the current part # BXW1000 that you are using. To make your current system compatible with an underslung system all you have to do is swap out the head to the underslung option using part # BXW4012. This is because the pitch that those bars connect to the head unit changes to accommodate the lower coupler. I confirmed this with my contact at Blue Ox.

When it comes to upgrading the weight rating of your weight distribution (WD) system it really just depends on if the 814 lbs - 914 lbs includes the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle or not. If it does then I recommend staying with the system that you currently have. If it doesn't then you might want to upgrade to the 1,000 lb - 1,500 lb system by using the bars # BXW4008.
