Can Multiple Phones Be Used with Same Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller?
Question:
I have a 2017 Tacoma with the tow package. What if someone else is using my truck and towing a trailer? I am guessing they will need to download the app and connect to the controller? Can multiple phones be used with the same controller? Thanks

The Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller - Wireless # C51180 will interface with the mobile device app on a smart phone or tablet. If you let someone borrow your truck or even just your brake controller, they will need to download the app and pair the device to their phone. Only one device can be paired with the device at a time, so even if numerous phones have the app, they won't interfere with each other as only one device will have the locked pairing at any given time. If your device is paired, you will need to disconnect the pairing to allow them to connect the pairing when both devices are within the Bluetooth range. There isn't a limit on how many phones the device pairs with, but there is a limit to 5 echo devices on the app.
If there is a loss of connection between the controller and the mobile device, the controller will still operate based on the last settings used, but you won't have the brake override feature. This will give you safe braking under normal driving, but not the emergency braking override.
