I am not 100 percent clear what you are referring to in terms of cross section but I can tell you that each of the Thule Force XT cargo boxes will fit crossbars that are a maximum of 3-1/2" wide x 1-11/16" tall. They do have different crossbar spreads they can work with:
- Thule Force XT Sport (11 cu ft of cargo capacity) # TH6356B: Between 23-5/8" and 35-3/8" of crossbar spread
- Thule Force XT (18 cu ft) # TH6358B: Between 23-5/8" and 35-1/2"
- Thule Force XT (22 cu ft) # TH6359B: Between 23-5/8" and 37-1/2"
Additionally, the Quick-Grip mounting clamps only take up a very small amount of space under the bars, as you can see on the accompanying photo of the clamps on very low-profile crossbars on an '18 Pathfinder. I have also added a link to a video review of this box being installed on the Pathfinder for you to take a look at.
These bars will very rarely clamp all the way around the crossbars and are more likely to grip the sides. The Force XT cargo box is still going to be highly secure because they have a PowerClick indicator which makes an audible noise so you know exactly when they are fully tightened around your crossbars.

Hi - I just bought a Thule Force XT Sport cargo box for my 2016 Mazda CX-5. My car has side rails, and I was wondering what type of cross bars I needed to purchase. Thank you!
