Question:
I have to replace the 7 blade plug on my truck. I looked at the Hopkins 42145 but noticed the plug that goes into the factory harness only has 7 pins while the harness has 8. Im not sure whether one of the pins is just a dummy used for alignment or what. Can you comment? Thanks

Replacement connector # 42145 only has 7 pins because there are only 7 functions in a 7-Way. It is possible the factory connector has some other circuit in it but it would not be used by the 7-Way. Or like you said it could be a dummy pin.
Connector # 42145 is not listed as a fit for the 1999 Dodge Ram though. It is possible that it will fit I just can't guarantee it. We do have the similar EZ Connector # 319-S7-06D but if you went with it you would also need adapter # 319-R7-52.
