How to Determine if Unmarked Trailer Coupler is for 2 inch or 1-7/8 inch Hitch Ball

Question:
I have a towbar that don’t have the ball size listed on it . I have a 1 7/8 ball on my truck it latches on it should I get a 2” ball and see if it will fit in it ? I can jiggle the hitch back and forth on the ball but not very much

If you have access to a 2 inch ball you should try fitting that into the coupler and see if it will latch on to it. That will be the best indicator. Based on what you said though it sounds like you have a 1-7/8 inch ball coupler as it fits into the coupler and only has a little bit of play.
