Which Electric Brakes Will Give the Best Performance?
Updated 07/27/2017 | Published 07/26/2017 >
Question:
We have 5 skid loader trailers and seem to replace brakes more often than we should. Sometimes a trailer will go 3 years, mostly not. Now working on a 7000 # pair of Dexter axles under a tilt trailer. Regarding electric brakes shoes, are Hayes/Al-Ko better and longer lasting than Dexter brand brake assemblies?
asked by: Jones
Expert Reply:
Dexter and Hayes/Al-Ko make quality brakes and one isn't necessarily better than the other. The majority of the time, the biggest factor in determining the life of a brake is going to be the load it is asked to help stop, the ruggedness of the ride, how often it is used and proper adjustment. Brakes that are self-adjusting such as the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-464-465 are popular because adjustments are made automatically and enhance the brake's performance - and thus, their overall efficiency.
