How To Install A Toggle Switch On A Backup Camera
Question:
Im wanting to use a switch to turn on my camera for the rear or the travel trailer while moving forward down the road I have a garmin monitor and the compatible camera. Question is how do I or can I cut the camera cable and add a switch to the battery on front of trailer using the cable from camera to the switch as a 50 foot cable is way too long and inconvenient to plug in and plug out underneath the truck

In order to control the on and off functions of your backup camera, you will need to install a toggle switch such as the Pollak Heavy-Duty Toggle Switch part # PK34571. You will then need to check the amperage of your camera to insure a 20-amp circuit is sufficient, if not we have several other toggle switches in a variety of amps I will attach for you.
In order to install this switch you will need to tap into your backup cameras power wire. This is the wire that receives a full 12 volts while activated. You can test this using our digital multimeter such as the 7-Function Digital Multimeter part # PT89ZR. This will be the wire that is ran from the camera to the battery or fuse terminal.
To install the toggle switch, you will then need to split the power wire in two attaching each end to the toggle switch. (Cutting or splicing wires on the backup camera may void your manufactures warranty)

Can you use a toggle switch to control the tilt on a rear camera? The new monitor does not have the option but my rear camera does. Thanks in advance Rick
