Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: Pollak Medium-Duty Toggle Switch

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out and showing you how we hooked up the Pollak medium duty toggle switch. So the toggle switch is a really simple electrical component. You know this one's gonna be a single pole, single throw so you just have on off for one thing you're trying to power up and you can use this for a lot of different stuff. Being that it's medium duty it's gonna be able to handle 20 amps, which is quite a bit but you can use it for lights, radios, whatever you're trying to turn off and on essentially. And that's exactly what I did here today on my boat.

I hooked up some headlights, some LED lights on the front and actually just replaced my old momentary horn switch 'cause my original horn quit working. It's really expensive. I ain't gonna bother with it. So I utilized that wiring that was already there to power up my lights. So I need a toggle switch like this and this one worked out really well and will allow me to turn them off and on.

As far as you know the quality of this, it feels good in your hand, there's a little weight to it. Don't feel cheap by any means. You throw the switch, feels tight and everything else like that. You have brass terminals where you'll hook your wires up to. And I do like how they give you that on off face plate there.

Just a nice touch. You can use it if you want or you don't have to use it. So completely up to you. We do get a lot of questions, people wondering about the little rubber boots that go over the switch. You have the one that covers it completely like that.

And I'm actually gonna use this for my own just to keep the weather and stuff off it. And then there's some half ones too that you can push through there and do that. This one is definitely tight but it will work and you can thread it on there. So if that's something you're interested in, you can always grab those boots here at etrailer. You get some people asking about dimensions to make sure it'll fit with their particular application. So we'll go over a few measurements here. In terms of the length of it this way, it's gonna be about 1 1/8 of an inch roughly. We go from just the body of the switch there, it's gonna be about 5/8. If you add the terminals that come down off of it, that's gonna be about an inch. And as far as the width here, that also looks like it's gonna be just under 5/8 of an inch. Other than that at the end of the day, a good general purpose switch. It's gonna work for a lot of different stuff. And in terms of getting these hooked up pretty easy. You just got two wires you need to hook up and mount this up, but we'll go ahead, put it up, hook it up on this boat here today and hopefully that'll give you some direction. To get the switch installed, everyone's setup is gonna be a little bit different but for the most part it's gonna be straightforward. You'll have two wires that you need to hook up and a spot to mount up the switch. In our case, since we're just replacing an existing switch everything's really easy. You don't really have to route or run any wires or drill any holes or anything since we already have it like I said, existing in our switch panel. But with that said we're gonna be working right here in this area. First going to kind of prep our switch I guess you could say. So there's a locking ring on it that'll actually secure it to our panel but we'll take that off and set it to the side. And then we have this on off placard here too, which we'll take off. And on the bottom there's gonna be a groove here, a keyway where that placard goes. So when we do mount this up eventually we want this to be facing down if of course if you want the off position to be downward. So just keep that in mind. But then if we look at the backside of the switch we're gonna have our terminals here and there's just some screws. Pull them out. And I'm gonna take my existing wiring and hook it up. So these are gonna need small ring terminals like that to get this hooked up. You can always grab them at etrailer if you don't have them. And just from knowing in the past I'm gonna put this wire here. I'll take our screw. Pretty small here. Get our screw in there, tighten it down, connect that ring terminal to the post there. And I wanna mention if you go to get this all hooked up and you test it and whatever you're trying to power isn't correct. So what I mean by that, if you go to turn it on and whatever you're trying of power actually turns off and vice versa, you could just take the wires that you have them hooked up and switch terminals. So you can take this one put up here and that'll correct it. So just something if you run into that. But we'll go ahead and do the same exact thing here with our other terminal to get this wire hooked up. Now we can take our switch and push it through the opening in my panel here and get it positioned how I want it. We'll take our on off indicator, slide that in place, then simply take the nut and tighten it down. That done. Good idea to test it, make sure it's working properly. So I'll turn my master power on and in off position my lights are not turned on but when we push it up we should get power to them. And that'll finish up our look at of the Pollak medium duty toggle switch.

  • Recommended Toggle Switch For For ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pads
The ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank or Step Heater Pad w/ Thermostat # 277-000164 each pull 4.8 amps so you'd need a switch that can handle at minimum 20 amps if you plan on powering them all off of the single switch. If this is the case then you could use the Pollak Medium-Duty Toggle Switch # PK34571. This switch is rated for 20 amps so you could use it for all four pads without overloading it, but you could also use multiple switches if you wanted to separately control the pads.

  • Recommended 12V Switches To Replace Interior Light Switches
i have attached a link to the switched we offer that may work for your light switch. For a single pole/single throw switch for 12V DC systems I recommend part # PK34308. If you prefer a switch with a Red pilot light I recommend part # PK34360. These are rocker design switches. If you want a toggle switch for your lights I recommend part # PK34571.

  • Switch Recommendation to Use With Switch Boots PK25371 and PK25370
For a switch to use with either the half boot part # PK25371 or the full boot # PK25370 you could use the part # PK34571.

  • In-Line Fuses For Therma Heat RV Tank Heater Pad
You do need to make sure you are properly connected to fuses for a single unit as the # 277-000163. This is a thermostatically controlled pad. If you are running more than one, you need to run them parallel. It would be wise to use a combined amperage fuse as you stated. You also want to make sure if you use a switch that it can cover the amperage. Each pad draws 5.8 amps, so a 15-amp or better switch will work, like # PK34571.

  • Can The Kat's Ceramic Interior Heater Be Used In A UTV And Will It Drain The Battery
The Kat's Heaters Ceramic Interior Heater with Fan part # KH37500 will work in a utv as long as you can find a secure, stable mounting location. It will also not drain the battery if installed correctly. The heater can be installed in one of two ways. You can hardwire the heater directly to your battery or you can use the provided 12 volt power outlet. As the heater will only receive power while the utv is on using the 12 volt outlet, it will not drain your battery unless the auxiliary...

  • How to Power Enclosed Trailer Lights Off of 12V Battery
I can tell you exactly what you'll need to power your enclosed trailer's lights off of an independent 12V battery, though there isn't an adapter. You first need to mount the battery with a battery box for 12V batteries like # TLA7708R, and then use junction box # 38656 to tap into your trailer's 7-way. You will also need ring terminals # 44-5310A, and wire # 12-1-1 to run to each light, and to turn the lights on, a light switch such as the Pollak rocker switch # PK34308 or toggle switch...

  • Turning Power off of Everchill Refrigerator
To turn off the Everchill Refrigerator for RVs # 324-000119 you could simply wire it up to a switch. The Pollak Heavy-Duty Toggle Switch # PK34571 will work for this application; you would simply need to install this switch on the refrigerator's power wire and you'll be set.

  • How Many Amps and Watts Does The Everchill RV Refrigerator Use
I believe you are referring to the Everchill RV Refrigerator w/ Freezer part # 324-000119 which runs off of 12V at 2.5 amps. Since watts is amps multiplied by volts, the wattage is 30 watts. This could be easily powered with a 2,000-Watt Portable RV Inverter Generator part # 333-0001. The Everchill Refrigerator does not have an on/off switch but can be easily wired to a toggle switch like part # PK34571.

  • Does the Optronics Opti-Brite LED Work Light - Flood Beam have a Switch
Opti-Brite LED light # TLL45FB does not have a switch so you would need to wire it to its own switch such as # PK34571 and to the trailer battery. For wire you could use # 12-2-1 which is jacketed 2-wire sold by the foot. The light draws 1.38 amps at 12.8 volts so the draw of 2 of them would be about 2.8 amps total. Your deep cycle marine battery likely has more than enough of an amp hour rating to run 2 of these LED flood lights for 2 hours.

  • How To Install LED Utility Lights On the Outside Of An Enclosed Trailer
It sounds like you are wanting to install utility lights on the exterior of your trailer and if that is the case then I do not have any universal diagram for this. That said, this will be super easy to do as most utility lights only have two wires which are for ground and power. The switch that you use may then have a diagram but that will be dependent on the exact switch. I recommend the Optronics Thinline LED Utility Light Bar part # BUL69CB which will provide plenty of light and is...

  • Hitch Extensions and Utility Lights
While we do not sell hitch extenders for 2-1/2" receivers, we may have a solution for you. Since most hitch extenders will reduce your towing capacity (usually by 50%), a better alternative is to use a longer ball mount for getting the clearance you need for your tailgate. I've linked to a list of our 2" ball mounts since they have more range than 2-1/2" ball mounts. To use one of these with your 2-1/2" receiver, simply use the B&W Hitch Adapter, part # BWRHXA2182, which I've linked to...

  • Lighted Hitch Cover Remains On with Vehicle Lights Off
A lighted hitch cover such as # CR-007 uses the same type of 4-pole wiring as a trailer that has basic lighting functions. This type of wiring set-up provides brake, turn and tail light functions. This 4-pole wiring harness, such as # 118526 and # C56251, will pass a very small amount of power even without any vehicle lighting functions activated. If you have a hitch cover that uses highly efficient LEDs instead of bulbs, like # CR-017, it may illuminate just from the small amount of residual...

  • Does Everchill RV Refrigerator Only Run Off of 12 Volt Power
Correct, the Everchill RV Refrigerator with Freezer # 324-000119 is only able to run off of 12 volt power so it will need to be wired as such. If you like you can use a switch installed on the power line to turn it off, the Pollak Heavy-Duty Toggle Switch # PK34571. I have added a link to a video review for you to check out as well of the Everchill RV Refrigerator with Freezer # 324-000119.

The On-Off Toggle Switch # PK34571 is for the light. You will want the Pollak Toggle Switch Rubber Boot # PK25370 to protect water and dirt from getting into this switch and causing issues in the switch. We currently do not carry any momentary type switches for the jack operation.

  • Dimensions of Pollak Heavy-Duty Toggle Switch
I'm not exactly sure which dimensions you're looking for so I took several of the Pollak switch # PK34571. If I didn't get what you're looking for reply back to me and I'll measure it again. The base overall is 5/8 inches wide, 9/16 inches deep, and 1-1/8 inches tall. It's right at 1 inch deep if you include the brass terminals. The complete switch from the back of the terminals to the tip of the toggle is right at 2-3/16 inches.

  • Troubleshooting Cab Protector Spot Lights Wired Into Reverse Light Circuit on Truck
It sounds like your new spot lights might simply be drawing too much power for the reverse light circuit on your truck to handle. In order to have the lights power on when going into reverse, you will need to tap into the vehicle's reverse light circuit, so there is not really another place where you could connect them. I also recommend checking to make sure the lights are grounded properly, as a weak ground might be allowing for just enough power to turn the lights on, but not enough...
