Towing Capacity and 5th-Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500
Question:
I have a 99 chevy 2500 hd 4x4 long bed single cab, 139k miles, and want to know if thats adaquate to pull a 28foot 5th wheel camper. Not sure on the weight yet. The current owner uses a Dodge 2500. I think it will be sufficient, but theres just enough info on line to make it confusing, so Im asking an expert. Any input will be appreciated. Thank you,

Based on my research, it looks like the maximum towing capacity of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is around 11,000 pounds, however I strongly recommend checking your owner's manual, as this number can fluctuate depending on the type of engine or specific model of your vehicle. Once you find this information, you will know how much weight you can safely tow.
If you still need a 5th-wheel hitch and installation kit for your 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, I recommend the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16120 along with the Custom Installation Kit # C16418-204. This hitch will provide a 16,000 pound weight capacity (which will be limited by your vehicle's capacity) and a nice interlocking 2-jaw system that will reduce rattle and improve security at the king-pin connection point. The custom installation kit is designed specifically for this vehicle and will cut the installation time in half when compared to universal kits. I have attached a video review of this product for you to look at.
I also recommend a 5th-wheel Wiring Harness like the Pollak # PK11893-11932. Once installed, this will provide a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck for easy hookup with your trailer.
