For your application, to add electric trailer brakes to your system without needing to splice into any factory wires, you could use the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit, # 119250KIT. These Zero-contact interface senors idetify the current flowing through each wire by simply clamping around it. It has a circuit protecting module to protect your vehicle wiring and connects directly to the battery for power. This harness captures the signals without connecting directly into the wires, so there is no feedback, no interface with, and no power draw from your vehicle's system. This will provide a 4-way flat connection.

To upgrade your 4-way trailer connection to allow for trailer brakes, we can utilize the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, # ETBC7. This kit will give you the 7-way blade-style socket, the wires, the circuit breakers, and all the connectors to wire a brake controller. I've attached a video of this installation on a pickup truck just to give you the installation steps, but instructions are also included. You may choose not to connect the reverse function because that would involve splicing.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that will apply the braking to your trailer with the same force as you hit the brakes in your tow vehicle. This controller has a very easy to read LCD display that takes the guesswork out of deciphering codes. It runs continual diagnostics when a trailer is connected to give you the information you need. It also has three levels of boost.

In order for the elctric brake controller to know when you are applying the brakes in your truck, you will need to tap into a dedicated brake light circuit. Without this signal, your trailer's brakes would only be applied when you use the manual override function on the brake controller. Typically, vehicles have a stoplight switch at the back of the brake pedal where this signal can be obtained. However, this signal may not be able to be found in this location on your semi truck because most semi trucks utilize air brakes. If you are not able to find a dedicated signal near the pedal, you will be able to find it at the fuse box and you may be able to use a fuse tap like # F2526 to tap into a signal there.

I've attached some videos to help.
