Question:
I have an old dilly trailer early 70s that had a 4 lug hub on it. I need a new hub but cannot tell the size I need. The spindle appears to be a single width. Any ideas? Is there a standardinch size for this kind of spindle? Thanks!

The best way to select a new hub is to match it based on the bearing set used in the original part. New hubs must use the same bearings as your old ones in order for them to fit on your spindles, so if you can find the part numbers from your inner and outer bearings you'll be most of the way toward knowing the right replacement hubs. Please refer to the linked photo that shows the usual placement and appearance of bearing part numbers.
With those part numbers you can directly search on the page I linked for you. Just click on your inner and out bearing part numbers, then on your required 4-lug bolt pattern, either 4-on-4 or 4-on-5. Then select your axle capacity. You will then see hubs that will fit on your existing spindles and fit your wheels.
For example, if your inner and outer bearings are both L44649, then you could use 4-on-4 galvanized idler hub (meaning no brake drum) # AKIHUB-440-2-G-2K.
