Question:

Hi, I have 2014 Hyundai SantaFe Unlimited NOT the sports model. The reviews posted are typically about the sports model, hence checking with experts 1. need not too large cargo carrier with rails. 17x46 curtis seems best #C18145 2. seems to fit in both 1-1/4inch and 2inch hitches. for my model, and in general for strength 2inch seems better. curtis 13153 seems the best recommended one C13153 3. does this carrier get attached to 2inch hitch out of the box or do I need to buy adaptor etc? 4. how does this get attach to the receiver - any recommendations to pick from? 5. does this need stability straps etc. I dont have ski rails to tie to but would like to to get recommendations to avoid any movement while travelling

The Curt 17x46 Cargo Carrier # C18145 is a good option for a "Goldilocks" carrier, not too big and not too small. A nice feature is the open floor design of the carrier, that offers support for larger items but will not allow road debris, dirt, or grime to build up on the carrier and your cargo. I've attached a review video of this cargo carrier. Keep in mind, while loading your cargo, it is important to keep your gear away from the vehicle's exhaust.

This cargo carrier will fit into either 1-1/4 inch or 2 inch hitch receivers. The Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # C13153 that you referenced is a great option, and our most popular hitch for the 2014 Santa Fe. All of the trailer hitches designed to fit your Santa Fe have 2 inch receivers. I've attached an installation video of this hitch for you.

You will not need to purchase a separate adaptor to install the # C18145 cargo carrier in the 2 inch hitch receiver. The carrier comes with an adapter that installs on the shank to fit a 2 inch receiver.

The # C18145 attaches to the hitch receiver with an included anti-rattle hitch pin and clip. You will not need to purchase a separate hitch pin for this cargo carrier. This anti-rattle bolt is designed to eliminate movement of the carrier's shank inside the hitch receiver to minimize movement during travel.

The Curt # C13153 hitch does not require the use of a support strap in order to comply with warranty so you are not required to use any additional straps. If you decide you would like to use one, Curt offers the # 18050 strap, which features a hook at one end to secure the strap in the top of the hatch. I've attached a review video of this product for you as well.

Depending on what you are planning on carrying in your cargo carrier, a cargo bag such as the etrailer Cargo Bag # e98990 or a cargo net such as the Curt Stretchable Cargo Net # C18200 will also be helpful to secure and protect your gear.
