Can 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness # 118413 be Routed/Mounted Outside of a 2003 Toyota Highlander
Question:
I purchased this wiring kit along with a flat 4 pole bracket to attach to the hitch for my 03 Highlander. I watched the instructional video and it seems that the wiring stays in the trunk until needed, in which its moved out and the hatch door closed on it. Is there any way to feed it through the floor of the trunk and secure it to the hitch with the bracket?

You will have to look for a grommet or other exit point at the very bottom of the cargo area of your 2003 Toyota Highlander. Remove the panels above and around the spare tire like you would when installing the wiring harness as shown in the video I have linked for reference. Remove the spare and look for a grommet you can run the harness through.
Chance are the grommet will not be large enough to fit the 4-Way plug through. You would have to cut the 4-Way end off a few inches back from the converter. Take the 4-Way end you clipped off under the vehicle and feed the wires into the cargo area by cutting a slit in the grommet.
Be sure to seal the slit with silicone when finished. Then you would splice the 4-way connector back on. This method keeps the splices inside the vehicle away from the elements. Then route the 4-Way over to your bracket and secure the 4-Way to the bracket.
If there is no grommet available, you will have to drill a hole.
