Trailer Hitch Recommendation for Carrying a Bike Rack on a Trailer
Question:
Will the Ultra-Fab 946402 fit on a 4 1/4inch x 4 1/4inch bumper? I want to continue to use the aluminum trim piece on the 4x4 welded tube bumper. I am having the welds re-done and adding strengthening materials at the bumper attachment to the frame rails. The beefiness of this hitch mount appeals to me, and I would probably trim the trim to fit around it if needed. I will be using it for a bike rack only. Nice bikes.

The Ultra-Fab bumper mount hitch # UF35-946402 is designed specifically for 4 inch x 4 inch square steel bumpers that are continuous welded. A slightly larger bumper will not be compatible. If by trimming the trim piece the bumper is still structurally sound and is 4 x 4 inches, it would fit.
The best thing to do, if you are concerned with providing the safest and best ride for your bikes is to use a frame mounted trailer hitch, see link. The most popular option is # 13703. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view. You will also need to use a stabilization strap with this hitch, # 18050. The strap is designed to relieve some of the stress on the hitch.
Only certain bike racks are rated for use at the back or a trailer or RV. I have included a link to them for you.
