An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

About a 1/2 inch difference in gap at the bump stop perch but still within parameters. Truck sits perfect with trailer attached. Haven’t towed yet. After towing if they perform like they should will upgrade to a 5 star. Easy to install, definitely needed 2x4 and jack. 2011 Silverado ext cab with 30 ft Genisis 5th wheel.

Works great Towed 5th wheel thousands of miles flawlessly. Better than the air bags I had on my previous truck in my opinion.

@Shaughn Good to hear that! We're glad your # TGMRCK25D Timbren helper springs are working well for you!!

I’d seen similar products rated in the 4,000 lb ratings but I went with these. I’m not a mechanic but I removed the factory bump stops and installed both these in 30 minutes or less. I used my rolling jack and lifted from the drop hitch and easily removed the old ones and soapy water and 1/4 twist and these were on. Placed a block of wood in the space between these coils and lowered the jacks then pressed it with my tractor to confirm full engagement. I carry a lot of tools on a 2020 Chevy 2500 I do feel a bit of butt bounce on large bumps but other than that I’m very pleased.

Excellent. I carry a flatbed and load of tools so they ride engaged all the time. There is a little bounce when hitting larger bumps like railroad tracks but I haul 20,000-30,000 lb loads with my 2500 Chevy truck. Worth the money, easy easy to install

by:

Second set I have purchased. These went on a GMC 3500 fully 2022. Easy install and works great pulling a large fifth wheel and gooseneck trailer. Basically reduces squat.

by:

I debated between the Timbren SES or air bags for my truck. After deciding on the Timbren's I was very happy with my decision. They handle my 14,000 LB 5th wheel like a champ!!! I've recommended them to numerous people who then bought them as well and they are just as happy. I love the fact I don't have to mess with anything when I haul. Just hook the trailer up and roll. Also... The install was a breeze. 20 minutes and they were in. That was working alone.

by:
2024 GMC Sierra

Used them on every pickup I've had. The latest is my 24 GMC Sierra. With the camper hooked up and tongue jack down, pulled the old rubber bumpers off, lifted just enough to clear getting the timbrens under along with a 3/4 inch small piece of wood then let them down with the weight of the trailer to pop them on place. Then lifted enough to get the spacer wood out and that's the extent of the install. Literally took between 5-10 minutes. Timbrens are seriously one of my favorite upgrades of all time.

by:

I had bought these timbrens and the weight safe hitch with the 8” drop from etrailer. I was quite please by both products. Installation of the timbrens was very easy, only took 30-40 minutes to change out bump stops in my garage.I hauled a Uhaul trailer with a Jeep over 300 miles, with no issues. The timbrens worked great, no issues with the rife. And I really like the weight safe hitch. I recommend checking out these two products from etrailer. Thanks etrailer.

Great no issues, made a couple trips out to California pulling heavy trailers, the hitch and timbrens are working out great.

by:

What I think is that it seems like most of the installers and reviewers of this item aren't using the sense God gave a gnat. This has to be the easiest install ever. It took me 15 minutes to do the entire job including removing the old stops and installing these Timbrens. Had a friend use a floor jack under my hitch, raised it up, i pried out the old stops and inserted the new ones, let it down on a piece of 2x4 and DONE! No removing tires, no removing heat shield, no nothing. 2 screwdrivers and a piece of wood.

They still look like new 1 year later. When towing my 11K trailer there is hardly any squat.

by:
2016 ChevroletSilverado

We purchased this kit last year for our 2016 Silverado 2500HD that pulls a three horse horse trailer
This has our truck setting level like it should with the loaded gooseneck horse trailer. We ordered this kit and it came in with detailed installation instructions and was a very easy install. If you are tired of your truck sagging in the back with a trailer attached, this is your best solution.

by:

This is the second truck I have installed the Timbren SES on. This truck didn't squat like my previouse 3/4 ton, but I didn't want to take the chance with a 1400lb. Tounge weight over rough roads.
What I like about these bump stops is that they have Zero affect on the everyday unloaded ride. They only compress and do their job when under load and when it's required due to road conditions. Even then the ride is not harsh.

by:
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Awesome customer service and follow up. Easy installation. Pry bar, couple of 2x4 wood blocks, floor jack and a little WD40. Weight of the truck seats the new bumpers in and you're good to go. Literally took me 20 minutes to remove and install. Can't wait to tow our 5th wheel.

Excellent!!! Takes the long extended bounce out of bumps/dips in the road. Helps keep the truck from sagging with a big payload as well.

by:
2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

I’ve not installed the Timbren as of yet, but the product came assembled and ready to install with directions. I do wish the product would have been shipped from etrailer in a plain box. It was shipped in the manufactures box. I’ll send photos of the installed product. Trailer shipped the product ASAP following the order placement. Great customer service.

by:
2019 Ram 3500

They work as advertised. Installed on a 2019 GMC 3500 SRW. The first set they sent was too long and came into contact with the axle on the slightest bump. Etrailer put me in contact directly with Timbren, and they sent me another pair that was 1-1/2" shorter. Now my empty ride is the same as stock, and the loaded ride height is much higher than without them. The loaded ride is stiffer than the air bags I had on a previous truck, but it feels like a huge anti-sway bar was added to the rear end. I love not having to think about them, and also not having the rear end rise way up when unhooked.

by:

Installation was easy and straightforward. Haven’t towed with them yet, but the unloaded ride has not at all been negatively affected. In fact unless you hit a big bump you shouldn’t know they are there but they seem to improve handling around turns when there is a shift to either side in the back. It a HD truck so there is some expectation it’s gonna ride like a covered wagon at times. I added these in conjunction with new Billstein shocks and I’m hopeful all that aggravating bouncing or porpoising my fifth wheel does on bad roads and bridge transitions will significantly improve. etrailer was fast with shipping and follow up. I’ll update after towing.

by:
2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

The timbrens help with the truck squaring from three inches to one and a half with the fifth wheel hitched up.makes the big bumps feel like little ones. I highly recommend them.

by:
2023 GMC Sierra 2500

They are the best product out there. That helps to stop the truck from bouncing so much when hauling my 40ft tilt bed gooseneck trailer hauling shipping containers.

by:
2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

This rating of 4 stars is because I have not put a load on my truck to test the drive loaded. I have driven it unloaded. The unloaded ride is the same as original. Installation was easy, I looked at the etailer video perfect procedure. It took 30 minutes tops. Fit perfect, easy installation, speedy delivery.

I did 8,400 miles summer with a 3900 lbs dry weight truck/camper on the truck. The Springs preformed as good as I hoped they would. I definitely would recommend them for this application.

by:

Makes my truck feel better while towing a 5th wheel camper, especially over expansion joints of the expressway.

by:

Quality product, etrailer shipped quickly. Purchased for a 2024 GMC 2500. Easy install. GM has a poor design of jut pressing Timbrens, bump stops into bracket. No bolt. Really sketchy GM. No fault of etrailer or Timbren.

by:

Received my springs today and had them installed in less then 45 minutes in my driveway, on my 2018 GMC Denali 3500 HD. I followed the advice of etrailer's videos. I pull a 2011 all aluminum self contained toy hauler and use Husky weight distribution hitch. I have not yet taken our trip to AZ from WI yet but will provide further input when we do over the 4th of July. I used a floor jack on the frame rails to provide clearance for installation and did not take the rear wheels off...worked in the wheel wells to remove and install.

by:

Easy user install. I had more trouble removing the factory bump stops than to install the new suspension enhancement system. I wish they were a little shorter so they would not bottom out when I am not hauling our RV. They do take out some of the extreme bumps while hauling our RV but add more dramatic bumps with an empty load.

I know that these springs will work best when used when under a load and can create a rougher ride when the truck is empty. I do want to make sure that you have a space of one half inch to one and a half inches between the spring and the axle when unloaded?

by:
2014 GMC Sierra 2500

This is the second set of Timbrens that I have purchased from etrailer and as always they work perfectly with my trailer and Bulldog ATV rack. The shipping is fast, prices are very good, and customer service is great.

by:
2024 GMC Sierra 3500

Install was fast, the soapy water makes them hard to hold onto and twist as it starts running down, so the faster you can get them in the better. I did need a prybar to get one in far enough to stay before using the blocks to press them in under weight, but all-in-all install didn't take 30min total.

We just upgraded our tow vehicle to a 2024 GMC 3500 and have a 5th wheel with a hitch weight of about 2800 lbs. including gear. I am disappointed the truck squats almost as before, if not the same. 1" to 1-1/2" under the Timbrens when empty. I do think the ride is the same empty, and I travel rough country roads. I think you would really have to "send it" over some rail road tracks to get the leaf springs to compress enough for these to contact and make a difference when empty.
The truck does feel stable when towing, just disappointed in the squat. Hate to go back to airbags, I have had both Firestone and Airlift. These are so much simpler to install and maintain, but probably will go back so I can level the truck.

To sum it up, Timbren advertises "Haul and tow without sag, sway, and roll" They are rated at 8600 lbs. and I am nowhere near that. So in my experience these only helped with 2 of the 3, and sag being my largest complaint means I probably will replace.

by:
2023 GMC Sierra 3500

The system worked great, towing our 5th wheel, the truck had little sag,and more stability.

by:

Easy order. Quick delivery. Less than thirty minutes to take off old bumpstops and replace with the new timbrens.

by:

These have been a great add to my truck for towing. I have a travel trailer and own a business where I use my truck for pulling. The bumps in the road feel much better with these on the rear axel. When compared to stock you will be shocked. Very easy to install and worth every penny.

  • Difference Between Timbren Jounce Springs for 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
The biggest difference between the two parts is that the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRCK25D is a double-convoluted spring while the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRTT35D are single-convoluted springs. The single-convoluted springs are designed for service vehicles like tow trucks because they have less travel - they won't compress as much - than double-convoluted springs, making them more rigid for heavier-duty work. Due to this I highly recommend...

Fifth wheel towing capacities are different from cargo weight capacities.
