Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed within the jack storage compartment of your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Perfect fit for my 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS w/ FWD. I had the hitch assembly installed at the trailer rental place. They wanted me to buy their wiring harness that they would have to cut and splice to my wiring in the rear. I instead bought this as a much better option that plugs right into my taillight assembly. Easy self-installation. I would definitely buy again and highly recommend it.

I consider myself an advanced electrician/mechanic but those skills were not necessary . Product installed very easily as per the instructions and video clips I found on their website . Works as designed...excellent product . 2011 Santa Fe . 6 cyl W/O factory tow package .

I purchased the Curt T-connector harness for our 2012 Hyundai Sante Fe. It arrived with the Curt hitch I ordered in excellent condition in a few days.
The wiring harness installed very easy and it is easily well hidden inside the vehicle when not in use (keeping it all clean and servicable).

The instructions are easy to follow but they are a little to general. there are numerous plastic fasteners keeping panels together that can be overlooked and cause cracking of interior panels. extreme care should be used when disconnecting panels from one another or removing them from the vehicle. I fished my wires but the printed directions say you should remove panels....risky.

All in all these products from Curt are very impressive and I'm glad these were my decision.

Hi, You were able to install without removing the panels? Im not looking forward to removing the panels. Thanks,Mark

You have to open some space to do the job neatly, but it isnt hard as long as you move slowly and dont force anything. I store the connection in the left side of the floor box, and lay it out under the hatch to the tow hitch when I need it. The weather strip is flexible enough to seal around it with the hatch closed. Look the job over first and only open up what you must. Its scarier than it really is. Good luck, make it fun

I was very pleased with the electrical wiring for my 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. It was very easy to install just followed the youtube video and it was a breeze. I feel relieved knowing that I didn't have to nip and cut any wires on my own. It was very secure and safe to install. One suggestion I would make would be to give the metal a cook sanding nothing to drastic, it works like a charm. I included a picture hopefully it helps out. I would definitely recommend getting this product.

Still going strong and have not had any issues at all.

I have to rate this as excellent at this time of installation. Everything was great with the wiring harness and the fittings were nice and tight and the connections were solid and true. How this will hold up over the long haul we will see.

The harness does not seem to be functioning correctly. I am having a problem with one of the tail lights on the trailer it will not light. I checked the ground and used the tester at the harness plug to be sure it was not the trailer and it is definitely the wiring on the car and it is the harness since there is no issue with the tail light on the car.

Thank you for the follow up review! I attached a link to our help article for troubleshooting with wiring. If you take a look at the article, it sounds like maybe you have a bad fuse. Hopefully this helps!

On year follow-up. Everything still working fine. As I said in my previous post, during the last year I have pulled a number of trailers without problems and the lighting package has worked flawlessly.

2012 HyundaiSanta Fe

I have had my trailer hitch and wiring on my 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe and could not be happier. It works great, and came with excellent instructions to install both the hitch and the wiring. The wiring was pretty much plug and play and the entire install took less than 90 minutes which included retapping the holes for the bolts. Would definitely purchase again from e-trailer!

by:
2012 HyundaiSanta Fe

purchased a couple of weeks ago, and between the video and paper instructions, the installation was a breeze. total time start to finish was about 30 mins, and everything works perfect!
Hassle free with etrailers equipment.
I'm a happy camper!

2014 HyundaiSanta Fe

This is the second Curt wiring harness I've purchased. The first was for a 2014 Nissan Altima. This one is for a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. These harnesses are so easy to install with the connectors. I have mine leading into my rear trunk box. Installation is around a half hour. No issues over the past year.

I orderd a receiver hitch for my 2012 Sante Fe along with the wiring harness. The price was better than I found anywhere else and the hitch and harness arrived on time just as promised. Kourtney, the sales rep., was very helpful as well as very knowledgeable. She even sent me a link to learn more about the proper drawbar that I needed. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend etrailer.

2011 HyundaiSanta Fe

Had one of these installed along with a hitch. Worked great until a tail light wire came loose and shorted against the frame. Reinstalled the wire in the tail light and replace the fuse. The tail lights worked, but the turn and brake did not. Checked the output of the module and there was only voltage for the tail lights. Ordered a new module wiring assembly and it arrived 4 days before expected delivery date. Installed it yesterday and it was really easy. The supplied instructions are simple and easy to follow. Watch the installation video before starting or if you have any problems. A flat blade and number 2 phillips screwdrivers minimum are necessary to get the job done.

by:
2010 HyundaiSanta Fe

Check to see if your vehicle came equipped with a factory tow package before you order this. My 2010 4 cyl Santa Fe had the tow package and I didn't know or expect that it would. Tow package has a transmission cooler and a dedicated harness connection behind LR fender well.

by:
2012 Hyundai Santa-Fe

Installation and quality is a 5 star. The only reason for the 4 star, which I struggle to give, is the wire harness must hang out the back door/trunk. The only bonus to that is, your harness does not corrode from the elements, but still slightly annoying to have it hanging out like a shirt tag.

by:
2010 HyundaiSanta Fe

I mentioned this on my review for the Santa Fe draw tite hitch. These are the best value for the money. Installs in less than 10 min and it never causes issues with the light system and doesn't cause any permanent damage to the wiring if you choose to revert back to stock and sell the vehicle without any problems! Well worth the money!

2011 HyundaiSanta Fe

The hitch and wiring I ordered were a exactly what I needed. Your website was easy to work through as far as getting the right product needed and everything installed just as easy. Delivery was also within a reasonable time. Will order from etrailer.com again.

Great product!

Wiring harness went in very well. I don't like the fact that I have to hang the wires and connector over the trunk to use it but this is mostly a car design issue. Good product.

This was a great buy,it came with everything needed to wire car for the lights on the trailer,it was of great quality. This is a great company to buy from. I will buy from them again when needed.

by:

Easy instsall, Not being familiar with body shop experience, had an issue with wiring and removing panels to get too the wiring harness too connect too, but got through that with a little extra time.

As painless as a wiring harness can be! Make sure you have some body tools/panel gappers handy for the trim you have to remove so you don't marr up your interior.

by:

The wiring harness went in easy and had everything I needed. I would defiantly purchase from your company again. Good product.

Works awesome as it should.

  • Troubleshooting Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness # C56078 Installation on 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe
From the issues that you are describing and the troubleshooting that you have already done, it really sounds like it is a ground issue to me. I recommend taking a piece of sandpaper and sand down the area where your ground is connected. You want bare metal to bare metal contact. Although I am pretty certain that this is the issue, please send me an email if this doesn't correct the problem and we can go over some additional troubleshooting steps.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring That Does Not Work with One Vehicle But Does with Other
Typically if trailer wiring works with one vehicle but not another and you know the wiring is working the issue is that there's just weak enough of a ground to cause the lighting to not work on the weaker vehicle wiring. So what you'd need to do is improve the trailer wiring ground on the trailer and you'll see the wiring start working again. I attached a help article on trailer wiring for you to check out too.

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe
For your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe all you need to install trailer wiring is the # C56078 which is a confirmed fit. This is a custom fit kit so that means that all you have to do is plug the connectors in line with the taillight wiring and you'd be set. No need to tap into any circuits to activate the wiring. Just plug it in and you'd be set. Check out the install video I attached for more info as well.

  • Heavy Duty Flasher Needed for Trailer Turn Signals to Work when Connected to 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe
A flasher is the device that you hear clicking from under the dash when you have a turn signal on. Some vehicles do require a heavy duty flasher in order to have everything work properly. A heavy duty flasher can be obtained at an auto parts store. It will replace the stock flasher that is on the vehicle. A Hyundai dealer may also have a specific flasher for this purpose. Something else that might work, instead of going to a heavy duty flasher, is to switch the trailer over to LED lights....

  • Trailer Turn Signals Work Intermittently with Trailer Connected to a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe
First, each trailer light should have its own ground. Trailer lights normally ground through the mounting studs unless there is an obvious ground wire. In either case the grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. Anything between the ground connection and the light, like a plastic license plate holder for example, will cause a bad ground. On aluminum trailers, if the ground is not sufficient then you would need to attach the light grounds to the main trailer...

  • Trailer Stop and Turn Lights Not Working with Curt Wiring Harness C56078 on 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe
When there is no rhyme or reason to lights not working it is almost always a ground issue. Ground problems can do all sorts of evil things to trailer lights and what you are describing is pretty much a classic case. Since you have checked the main grounds at the converter and the trailer, we can skip those for now. Take a look at the ground connections at the tail lights themselves. Many times trailer lights ground through the mounting studs unless there is an obvious ground wire. In both...

Bizzare behavior like what you described is almost always ground related. I would first start at the trailer tail light assemblies and make sure they are grounded to a clean metal surface. A lot of taillight assemblies ground through the mounting hardware, so you should check to make sure the assemblies are connected to a clean metal surface. Next check that the ground strap of the 4-way on the trailer is connected to a clean metal surface of your trailer. Lastly check to make sure the...

Either part # 118415 or C56078 will work with all 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe models. They would plug inline with the wiring harness feeding the tail light assemblies on either side of the vehicle.
