Good product. Don't forget to buy a pin.

by:

easy to use and good idea I like it. multi-use item; a must for bike users

by:

Exactly what I needed to place cargo rack beyond rear mounted spare tire carrier

by:

Excellent choices, great product. I needed a little extra length for a specialty attachment and these two receiver extensions allows me to have more versatility with my attachment. I couldn't be happier.

by:

I was surprised by just how solid and heavy it was made.
Just what I needed to move my Bobcat UTV hitch back to I can use it as my yard dog to shift my trailers around and not worry about the plastic tailgate nor the plastic bed getting damaged.
The hitch sits under the bed and this extends it out so it is useable.

After one year its still one of the best upgrades I have done to my Bobcat UTV. The only thing I have added is installing two anti-rattle hitch tighter to take out the rattle from the hitch extension and the ball hitch when I dont have a trailer connected.

by:

The hitch extension worked perfect. The only one that was 18" pin to pin which was exacty what I needed to make this combo work.
Dual hitch to start. Top whole a luggage rack to haul coolers and the bottom for the bike rack.
Thanks etrailer.

by:

I needed the hitch extender because I added a 9'6" camper on to my truck and I pull my jeep trailer with truck. I trussed the extender back to frame.

Work great! I needed an extension due to my truck camper. It holds my heavy duty bike rack and 2 ebikes with no problems.

by:

Bought some tail light lenses for my fishing boat trailer good price came quickly Great service put a bike rack also easy to put together takes minutes to put on and takeoff rack $200 cheaper than my neighbor same bike rack then I bought a ball hitch extension 18 inch to keep my wrangler that we Toby hind the motorhome from hitting the back bumper when I make a sharp turn I’m sure that should take care of the problem everything I bought from the trailer our quality products quality service and everything they ship always comes on time personally I think etrailer rocks

Still working like it was designed for thanks again

by:

Excellent quality - not a scratch on it when received. The welds appear to be very good. Delivered very quickly.
Didn't rate it excellent only because it lacks rings near the end for safety chains. On the other hand, one extension I found had rings (2 sets of rings - one for vehicle to extension, another from extension to trailer), but it cost nearly $200, and had the same weight rating as this one. As received, the safety chains have to be very long, but for the difference in price, (64 vs 200) I could have rings welded on if needed..

by:

This works perfectly for my application which was to tow a trailer with my tailgate down. Does lower your towing capacity by a fair amount, but for trailers with low tongue weights this isn’t a big deal.

by:

I tested it on the Jeep and the Stowaway 2 in storage. It works perfect to create clearance with the extra wide spare tire

We are delighted that you are happy with your purchase! Just be aware that using an extender such as this will lower the towing and tongue weight capacity of the hitch by half, due to the extra leverage moving the load rearward will cause.

by:

The extender is fine, although I had to do a work around. The female end of the extender is not deep enough The 5/8 inch holes of the tow bar will not line up with the 5/8 inch holes of the extender. I must use the 1/2 inch hole of the extender. And you only gave me 5/8 inch pins. The 1/2 inch I own is not long enough to go all the way through the extender. The work around was to buy a 1/2 x 4 inch bolt and nut. Not ideal, but it works.

by:

This extension worked great to allow me to fit my bike rack (4 bikes) between my SUV and pop-up camper. Without it, the propane tank, battery and tongue crank were in the way and prevented me from getting the bikes on the rack. It's rock solid, trailer tows the same as with no extention.

by:

Quality, fits well, exactly what I needed!
This
extends the reach of my hitch on a Yamaha golf cart, under a rear-facing seat. I added an E-trailer step to make it easy for people to step onto the rear platform.

by:

Works just as advertised, needed this to extend the hitch out farther so I could pull my sprayer behind a John Deere Gator, works great, gets the hitch out from under the vehicle. Can't say enough about the great service from etrailer, ordered, and they upgraded my shipping to quicker service, great communication during the process, will do all my trailer accessories buying from them from now on!!! Thanks

by:

The packaging was OUTSTANDING!!!

by:

Order/communication/shipping was awesome. Ordered Sunday night and got an email from a rep saying it was received. An hour later another email from another rep said it was in stock and would ship shortly. Shipping email came that same night, and product arrived in 3 days as expected. Product is very solid, just as spec'd and fits my need perfectly. Only negative is it is doesn't have safety chain hooks which will have to be welded on.

  • Availability of 24" Hitch Extension for 2" Hitch
Hi Ricky; the longest extender we have that fits a 2" receiver is the Draw-Tite Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 18" Long # HE18. Are you trying to clear something specific on the back of your Sprinter? Depending on what you're trying to do we may have another solution.

  • Can Hitch Extender HE18 Be Used On Chevy Silverado 2500HD with Camper for Carrying Thule T2
The # HE18 would work for you actually. As much as we try not to recommend the hitch extenders (especially these longer ones) in your situation the # HE18 is a totally viable solution. Your bike rack and bike weight would be under the weight capacity of the extender that is 350 lbs and your truck's hitch capacity would be well over the amount needed for the weight as well.

  • Using a Hitch Extender with a Thule Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Ski Carrier Adapter
The adapter you are inquiring about attaches to the bike rack not the ski adapter. The ski adapter, part # TH9033, attaches to Thule bike racks. If you have a Thule bike rack, it will work with adapter # HE18. However, you do need to keep in mind your limitations when using the adapter. Using a hitch adapter will reduce your trailer hitch tongue capacity by 50. So if your trailer hitch is rated for 350 pounds of vertical load, you will only be able to load 175 pounds on the hitch. You will...

  • How to Determine if a Hitch Extender Can Be Used While Towing a Trailer
The # HE18 can work for what you are trying to do only if when you reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent it still as enough capacity for the trailer it is towing. Since your hitch would end up having a 250 lb capacity when used with this adapter you will need to verify the tongue weight of the trailer first by checking out the link I attached that details how to do this and then make any adjustments as needed to get it below 250 lbs.

  • Why Does Use of Hitch Adapter/Extender Reduce Hitch Tongue Weight and Trailer Weight Ratings
Any type of hitch adapter or extender will have the unavoidable side-effect of causing a loss of about half of your hitch's rated capacity, both its tongue weight (TW) and it's gross towing weight (GTW). Hidden Hitch extender # HE18 and Curt Hitch Extender # C45791 both cause a loss of capacity because they change the geometry of the hitch set-up. The added length of the adapter will allow greater leverage to be applied to the hitch tube by the attached trailer or accessory; this is what...

  • Longest Available 2-Inch Hitch Extensions for Use with Truck Bed Camper
For a 2-inch hitch the longest hitch extensions we offer are the 60-inch # TLE1560 and 48-inch # TLE1548, both from TorkLift. However, these only work along with a TorkLift brand SuperHitch dual-receiver type hitch that has the strength and included safety chains to handle the extra stress from the trailer load being further from the hitch. To use one of these you will need to also install a SuperHitch. The longest standard 2-inch hitch extension that will work in any hitch is 18-inches,...

  • Using Two 18 Inch # HE18 Hitch Extenders to Launch and Retrieve Sailboat
The answer to your question will depend a lot on how much the tongue weight of the boat/trailer is. Using more than one extender is not something we recommend, because using one will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by half. Adding another extender will bring the tongue load out to 3 feet rearward of the point where the first extender pins into the receiver, and at that point there would be an unknown amount of leverage applied to your hitch, and I couldn't say what the tongue...

  • Trailer Hitch Extension and Weight Distribution for 2015 Ford F350 With Truck Bed Camper
If your 2015 Ford F350 has the 2-1/2 inch hitch, you can use the Reese Titan # RP45292 Hitch Box Extension and Reducer. The extension is designed so that it can either be used in its 34 inch configuration or be cut down to 24 inches in length, which is perfect for your needs. When cut down to 24 inches, the extender has a 6000 lb towing capacity or if used with a weight distribution system, the capacity increases to 8000 lbs which would work well. If your truck has a 2 inch hitch, replacing...

  • Longer Hitch Extension for Backing Boat Down Ramp
If you have a 2 inch hitch we do not have any solutions for this. If you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch, we don't have 48" but can go 34" with the # RP45292. Depending on how the angle of the ramp changes a super long extension may not be a great idea as it would either point the nose of the trailer up super high or down to low. The longest extension we have for a 2 inch hitch is 18 inches and it would be part # HE18. Using a hitch extender cuts the capacity of the hitch it is used on in half.

  • Can 18 Hitch Extension HE18 Be Used To Carry Cargo Carrier Or Tow Small Boat?
You are correct. Using the Draw-Tite Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 18" Long # HE18 you were looking at will limit the tongue weight rating to 350lbs and a 3500lb trailer weight rating, but also reduces the capacities of your trailer hitch receiver by 50%. For example if the trailer hitch receiver on your 2001 Ford F-250 has a tongue weight rating of 1000lbs, and a trailer weight rating 10000lbs your would now be limited to 500lbs tongue weight and 5000lbs trailer weight. • Using Hitch Extender to Increase Turning Radius of V-Nose Trailer Towed Behind RV
The first thing you'll want to do is confirm the tongue weight of your trailer. I'll link you to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. You CAN use an extender, see link, but keep in mind an extender will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. The tongue weight capacity represents the maximum amount of downward force that can safely be exerted on your hitch. If the trailer tongue weight is less than half the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, you can use...

  • Does Extending Tongue of Trailer Affect Tongue Weight Capacity of Trailer Hitch
You are correct, if you were to extend the length of your trailer tongue it would not lower the capacity of the tongue weight of your hitch. If anything the hitch has more leverage over the tongue weight now like you mentioned so the opposite would almost be true. In reality if you were to measure the tongue weight before and after extending the tongue out on a trailer it should be a lower number. That being said the # HE18 has a 3,500 lb overall capacity and a 350 lb tongue weight capacity.

  • Can Hitch Reducer Be Used for 2 Inch Weight Distribution Shank in 2-1/2 Inch Hitch
You certainly can! I'd recommend a reducer sleeve like part # BWRHXA2182 which is designed for this purpose. This reducer has pinched ends to prevent it from sliding into the 2-1/2 inch receiver too far, so it'll be easy to line up the hitch pin holes. A reducer sleeve might allow slight movement of the shank, but the spring bars will put enough leverage on the weight distributing shank that this shouldn't be an issue. I've linked to a product demonstration video featuring the reducer...

  • Can Hitch Extender Allow More Clearance Between Trailer for Tighter Turning
Hitch adapters like the part # HE18 will definitely add clearance so that you can turn sharper but due to the length and added movement they do cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent. Typically, we recommend longer ball mounts like the # BM20 instead if possible.

  • Needing Hitch Extender with 9 Inch Shank
We have an extender for a 2 inch hitch that meets the shank length you were looking for. The Tow Ready # HE18 has a shank that measures 13-1/2 inches overall, 11 inches in length from the hitch pin hole to the beginning of the receiver as shown in the provided photo. Keep in mind, using an extender such as this will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50%.

  • Do Hitch Extenders Work Without Capacity Reduction When Flat Towing
For flat towing purposes the capacity of the hitch does not get reduced that same since the 4 wheels being on the ground prevents vertical tongue weight from being put on the hitch. Using this hitch extender will however reduce the capacity of the hitch on your 1999 F-350 by 50%.
