Video Transcript for Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO and Air Force One Braking System Cylinder Cable Review

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, we're going to be checking out and walking you through how to replace the actuator cylinder cable for the Demco air force one, and Stay-n-Play supplemental braking systems. So when it comes to anything mechanical, you know, stuff does happen and you do have some failure points. And uh that's exactly what happened with our uh customers here today. The cable, uh you know, it, honestly, it had been cut from a shop, kind of getting them out of a pen, trying to deactivate the system. The braking system was having some issues.

Um, ton of different other ways around it, but that's what they did. So, we needed a new cable. Obviously you can't use it. But sometimes these do fail for other reasons, which we'll get to a little bit later on, but you know, if you, if you'd like to tinker on things and you're relatively handy, um you know, a lot of times you can get away with just replacing that failed part and not having to buy a whole new actuator cylinder. Um, you know, if you don't feel like messing with the cable, you can pick up the cylinders that are already pre-built and everything.

But you know, if you want to save a few bucks, a lot of times you can uh just replace what needs fixing and that's exactly what we did here today. Cause the cylinder and everything else was fine. So this is pretty straightforward. Not much to it. This is going to work with the cylinders from the Demco Stay-N-Play supplemental braking system, as well as the air force one supplemental braking systems.

And that holds true for those of you that have the coach link monitors as well. It doesn't matter, same cylinder. So honestly, if your cylinder looks like this, the majority of them that I've seen are pretty much identical. Uh you'll be in pretty good shape. With that said, once I had this one apart, I did notice that the one that was originally in it looked a little different at the top there.

There- it has a little brass piece or it looks to be brass. And at the bottom, I actually had to cut off a c-clip, or a snap ring type deal to get this one out. Um, if yours looks like that, the new one will still work. Um and actually the new one actually had a little bit of a better design in my opinion. Instead of a snap ring, it used on an alan or a hex head nut there, to make it easier to disassemble. And it just had a better attachment point here in this brass collar type deal going on. So, just something I wanted to mention, and if yours looks a little bit different, chances are still really good, uh, this new replacement is going to work. So, now that we uh kind of checked this out, why don't we go ahead and put the new cable in So it looks like at the top here, this uh brass colored part, it's got a couple of openings there. I'm gonna use a pair of snap ring pliers to unscrew this. You could probably just use a regular pair of pliers and grab it around the sides too. It's probably isn't in there super tight. But we're going to unscrew this and see what lies beneath. It should be a relatively straightforward process here if I can get these pliers to work right. So go ahead, get this unscrewed. And I do suggest doing this on a table or a bench, that way we can kind of set everything to the side, kind of keep track of everything in here. So with that off, it looks like this piece can probably come off. It is not wanting to though. Let me see if I can't maybe try to loosen it up. So I think what the issue is, or one of the issues, is that the cable's kind of jammed in there. There we go! So we get that out, trying to work all this out. And once I get all this pulled out, we can kind of check it out and go from there. So we got all that pulled out and if he continued to try to pull it forward, it just stops. So it looks like if we remove our fitting here, using a seven sixteenths, if you remove that fitting, I'm thinking there'll be a part underneath there. So we'll push our cable up, and you try to pull it all the way out. It's stopping too. So, think what we have to do at the end here, there's an itty bitty snap ring, this little black ring there. And I feel like we need to get that off. That way we can just pull it out this way. So this thing is really, really small here. So I'll do my best. Kept on trying to get that snap ring off, to no uh success there. Kind of tired around and messing with it and since we're not reusing any of this anyway, uh I'm just going to get the show on the road. So I'm bringing out a Dremmel tool and I'm just going to cut this end off. So with that cut off, now, we should be able to grab everything here and get it pulled out. So with that piece removed out of there, what cha want to do is inspect the boar, your cylinder there, uh you know, make sure it's clean, lubricated, and so on. Ours is actually in pretty good shape. And on this piece might not be a bad idea just to take some type of, of- oil. You know, I just took a little uh oil and super light coating on it, um to keep things moving, and now we can take this, feed the cable on through, and pull that pull it through there. And we'll take our air fitting and get that re-installed in the back of it. So with that deal done, all that's left to do is transfer this piece, slide that on, thread it down. Like I said, we don't have to crank these down just get 'em snug. So that's really all there is to it there. Uh what I'm gonna do since I'm- while I'm at it, is take our old anchor, and get this swapped over to our new cable. That way we're ready to ready to ready to roll here whenever uh- you go to re-install this inside of our vehicle. And that'll finish up our look at of the replacement actuator cylinder cable, for the Demco Stay-n-Play and air force one supplemental braking systems..

ETrailer originally told me this part was covered under Demco warranty; it is not. Otherwise delivery and product was fine.

After making a few adjustments to the angle, the second cable is holding up fine.

The cable was to replace one in a Demco braking system that snapped and was just one year old. E-Trailer was responsive and shipped the cable quickly but the price of the cable and the shipping cost were quite high for what amounts to a 12” piece of braided steel cable and a 5” inch metal rod .

by:

It's perfect. So glad we were able to just get the cylinder cable. It was very easy to install. Hardest part was waiting for it to come. I did one day delivery and it was 2 days before it showed up late in the day. Had to delay our trip by a day No fault of etrailer. But Andy from etrailer was on my order from the beginning. Without even saying anything Andy credited me the shipping cost. Can't thank Andy and etrailer enough. I will continue buying from them thanks again.Bob

Received the new part in a very timely manner. Already had old cylinder out and ready to go. Installation was a breeze, probably took me 5-10 minutes and brake was working like new. I did call Demco for any installation tips if they had any. They asked what kind of vehicle I had and told me I should flip the bracket around to get some more distance from the firewall. (Jeep Rubicon) Should get more life from the cable with this tip from Demco.

by:

It was a direct replacement. I have not been able to travel since I installed it but I will be going very soon. Thanks for another great product.

by:

Product arrived as promised. I have not installed it yet, the vehicle is not available at this time. Looking at the video link that was given to me, I should not have any problems installing. If I do, I know the staff at
E trailer will be there to help.

by:

Thank you , We were able to get our toad breaking system up and running before we have to deal with a bunch of passes,

by:

Just what I needed and when USPS messed up my delivery eTrailer was there to help me.

Thanks

by:

Part is fine. etrailer is the problem. No follow up. Extremely slow shipping. No follow up. You have lost a customer for life

by:

The most helpful part of the process was the instructional video on YouTube. The explanation of why it probably failed in the first place was spot on. The retailer who installed it a few years back installed the air cylinder to close to the firewall and this caused the cable to fray and eventually snap.

Thank you!

by:

This cable is prone to wear ,after the original one broke I now carry a spare .
The demco brake is by far the best .
I do believe this cable should be made from a better material

by:

It has been working fine since the new cable was installed and etrailer adjusted where the connection was originally placed.

The replacement cable saves a lot of money compared to replacing the entire cylinder

The replacement cable is a great way to save money over buying a new complete cylinder assembly. I now carry an extra cylinder that was used by our traveling companion a few months ago when their toads cylinder cable snapped.

I always enjoy shopping with etrailer. We were in a bind because we’re on the road and only at one place for a few days. So instead of ordering online, I called and had the pleasure of working with Will. He was super pleasant, very helpful And expedited our order to ship in the best way. We got it on time, installed, and we can continue our journey. Thank you!

by:

It was a pleasure working with Jerry. Very knowledgeable and familiar with the product. The online video of the installation made this 1,2,3.

by:

The product was packaged and sent out on the day I ordered it.I like the tracking information. The cable looks like it has been improved compared to the original. I gave it 4 stars because I haven't installed it yet.

by:

During install the cable fit properly and has been working as it should for over a year. Very satisfied!

by:

Product is still working as advertised!

by:

This item was exactly as described and fit perfectly. I watched the video which made replacing the cable a snap. After one year it still is working as expected and I expect it will continue for many years to come.

by:

Just what I needed. Will work great when installed.

by:

The replacement was excellent, with straightforward installation instructions. It's essential for owners to inspect this cable annually. As it turns out, mine was not installed properly; there was no slack left in the cable, leading to its eventual breakage.

by:

All my experience with etrailer has been excellent. From the products they sell, shipping, customer service, it's all top shelf. Thank you for all you do.

by:

I have purchased everything i have related to camper, motor home, towing and also my Demco stayinplay brake system that I have installed on my 1989 Ford bronco 2. I’ve had nothing but excellent service, tech advise, and timely delivery. Thanks etrailer.
