Is Load Resistor Needed to Add a LED Taillight # STL69RRXB to Existing Vehicle Taillights
Updated 12/08/2014 | Published 12/07/2014 >
Question:
I was wanting to know if you needed any type of load resistor to hook up part # STL69RRXB ?? I know LEDs draw a lot less amps. Does that light strip have the load built into its circuit board? I was planning on adding it to my SUV for extra lighting in the rear. Thanks

Expert Reply:
Since you are adding the # STL69RRXB to the current taillights on your vehicle a load resistor would not be needed.
A load resistor is only needed when you replace an incandescent bulb on a blinker circuit with just an LED. If you are adding an LED to a taillight circuit the necessary resistance is already on the circuit for the blinkers to function properly so the load resistor isn't needed.
