Recommendations for a Trailer with Inertia Brakes that Need Replacement Parts
Published 10/30/2014 >
Question:
On one side of one axle Im missing all the brake components from an 80s vintage Rice horse trailer - pictures attached. Do you have any suitable replacement parts. Its an 8inch drum with mechanical inertia brakes. Thanks,

I really wish we had something that would work for you, but that style of brake assembly is so old we don't carry any parts for it. I would say your best option would be to replace your brake assemblies with a more modern style, but it looks like your assemblies are welded on.
Also, the closest assembly we carry to what you have would be 8-1/2 by 2-1/4 inches. You might want to remeasure your assemblies otherwise you would have to replace your hub and drums as well as the assemblies.
The only option it looks like I could recommend for you would be for you to have your current spindles removed, have new ones installed in place of them by a qualified professional, and then go with either an electric brake setup or a hydraulic brake setup. You will need new hub and drums for this as well.
For more info on how to install both of those brake setups on a trailer check out the two FAQ articles I attached to the right.
