Is Brophy Safety Chain Mounting Bracket MB12 Compatible with Safety Chain 2118-605-04

I bought MB12 and the 2118-605-04 chains because there is an answer to a question on the website stating that these two items work together. The chain wont slide into the MB12 so that I can weld it onto the trailer. Is there a trick to getting these 2 pieces to work together?

The hook end of chain # 2118-605-04 will fit mount # MB12 but the opening in the chain links is too narrow for MB12 to fit. You would need chain # 1483-535-04. I tested this chain and the MB12 and they will work together.
Or you could go with an S-hook with a keeper on it like # C81820 and securely hook onto the MB12.
