How to Clean the Weldnuts of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee to Install a Curt Hitch
Published 09/22/2014 >
Question:
Purchased the Curt Trailer Hitch 13084 for a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport Classic. Installation or Driver side went well Have a problem with the install on the passenger side. Weld nuts are corroded. Tried wd-40 and brush to clean out, but bolts feel like they cross-thread when installed. Would it be easier to use a tap and clean out the threads or remove the weld nut strip and use hardware that came with the hitch? Looks like maybe the tail pipe hanger is keeping the weld nut strip in place. Can it be removed? Jeff

Expert Reply:
Your best option would be to use a tap to clean out the threads of the existing weld nuts on your 1998 Jeep Cherokee. Since the vehicle has a few years on it the weldnuts will be a little bit stubborn.
I attached a couple links to the right that you should find pretty helpful as well.
