EAZ Lift Weight Distribution System Head is Bent on One Side
Published 08/15/2014 >
Question:
Im towing a 33foot Argosy trailer with a properly sized EAZ Lift round bar weight distributing hitch and Ive found the that plate where the hitch ball mounts is bent down on the right side adjacent to the ball. What would cause this? Ball height was set to factory spec. Trailer looks level when towing. I have no way to measure tongue weight to look for overloading but this problem just appeared after towing for a year or more without issue. What should I be checking to remedy this problem?

For weight distribution, one of the most important factors is the tongue weight. You need to determine the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow. Then you need to add the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle to get the total tongue weight.
It does sound like the system is overloaded, possibly very overloaded if part of the head is bending. Usually we see the brackets on the trailer bending or even the trailer frame in some cases. This is the first time I have heard of a head bending.
I believe there is too much tension on the bar on that side and it possibly happened during a turning event or just over time. You will want to stop using the system. Then you will need to confirm the total tongue weight. Finally you will need a system that is appropriate for the trailer tongue weight.
I have included a link to some helpful articles to the right on weight distribution and a link to the systems we carry.
