For your 1998 Dodge Ram 1500, and since you said you are going to be towing an enclosed race trailer, I recommend a Class V trailer hitch.
I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C15300. This hitch is a bolt-on installation and includes all the hardware needed. It has a 2 inch receiver opening and has a towing capacity of 16,000 lbs.
I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit, part # EBMK2416. This includes a ball mount, 2 hitch balls, a pin and clip an a handy storage bag. I have attached a product review video of this ball mount kit you can check out.
