Determine Square Axle Capacity
Updated 08/05/2014 | Published 08/02/2014 >
Question:
I recently turned an old camper trailer into a utility trailer. Like the other guy on this page its an 1.5 ×1.5 solid steel axle. Inner bearing is LM-43548 the second number is possibly an 8 not a 3?outer is MI-2649 both are Koyo. I replaced the tongue due to Damage and Im almost positive it was in the 5,000 lb. Range. Does that jive with the bearing sizes? P.s. the old tongue was a 2 in. And I replaced it with a 2 5/16.

Square axle capacities are pretty hard to determine. Unlike round axles, they do not have set capacities based on their dimensions. We have no information for the bearing numbers you listed. But what you can do is give me some exact measurements of your spindle and we should be able to see if there is a hub we carry that would fit so that you could at least get a ballpark on your capacity.
I need the dimensions of where the bearings and seal ride.
You might be able to contact the original camper trailer company your trailer was built by to see what they say for axle capacities.
