How Does The Dexter Equalizer DX62QR Get Installed?
Updated 11/04/2026 | Published 11/02/2026 >
Question:
Hello, I have a dual axle trailer. 4 x 5 Leaf 1-3/4inch Wide Double Eye Spring 3k Cap. 25-1/4inch Eye to Eye 5.2k - 6k axles I want to change out the equalizer as a proactive maintenance. I like the concept of this equalizer but want to confirm a few things. 1 Looking at the DX62QR equalizer I believe the shackles would be installed on the equalizer front axle and the rear axle would be installed directly to this model equalizer. Correct? 2 The current spacing of the hangers is as follows: Front hanger-to-center is 29inch and the center hanger-to-rear hanger is also 29. The shackle length for the front would be 2-3/8. Correct? 3 If I install the DX62QR equalizer: Would it be expected that either the shackles on the front springs of the equalizer or the equalizer itself on the rear spring make contact with the frame when under load? 4 Is there a visual dwg of this configuration when installed? That seems to be missing from the website. Thank you

Welcome back, William!
I can help with most of these and I will answer them in the order you asked:
1. You are indeed correct. The front of the equalizer does need to have shackles to attach the leaf spring to it, but the rear leaf spring attaches directly to it without the need of shackles. That said, you do want to have shackles on the rear hanger for the leaf spring to attach to.
2. While 2-5/8" long shackle straps would typically be the norm, you should be able to get away with 2-3/8" as well. We don't currently carry that size, but if that's what you already have installed, they should work perfectly fine.
3. No part of your suspension system should be making contact with the trailer's frame. If this is happening, something is set up wrong or the wrong size.
4. We do actually have a drawing of how this installs. Took me a little bit to find it, but I have it attached to this page.
Hopefully that answered everything, but if it didn't, just let me know.
Out of curiosity, what kind of trailer are you working on? And what are you hauling?
