Question:
I have ordered and installed a couple of hitches for our cars before, so I am confident about doing it again. However, Im shopping a couple of hybrids Toyota Rav4, where you have a distinct solution and the Subaru Forester, where you do not differentiate with the gasoline only model. Is this Subaru spec correct, or an oversight? Thanks!

Welcome back Roberto. We've got you covered either way. The 2026 Toyota RAV4 lineup is now entirely hybrid, with each trim offered as either a standard Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) or a Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). That's why you're seeing those two options listed in our fit guide. The good news is that the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C34FR62ZY will work with either version. Depending on your use case for the hitch, you can also add the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C34FR62FT. This is a plug and play harness that will give you a 4 flat trailer connector without having to splice into the vehicle's wiring. One thing worth mentioning is that some RAV4 trim levels appear to offer a factory hitch and trailer wiring, so I'd check what's included on the specific model you're considering before purchasing anything aftermarket.
If you decide to go with the 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid, I'd recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e83ZR. This receiver is compatible with both the hybrid and gas powered Forester models. For trailer wiring, you'll want the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56040. This harness is specifically listed as only compatible with the Forester Hybrid in our tech notes. I'm not entirely sure why that fitment isn't reflected in our fit guide, but it is called out in the product information. Unlike the RAV4, it doesn't appear that any trim levels of the 2026 Forester come standard with a factory hitch and trailer wiring, so you'd likely need to add both components.
Are you currently leaning one way or the other? What will be your primary use for the hitch?

Thank you, Christopher H! This is very helpful. I am leaning (now) towards the Toyota RAV4 PHEV. The vast majority of my trips are rather short and I already have a charger mounted at home, from when I owned a Nissan Leaf. I didn't have a hitch on the Leaf, as it was a lease. My first etrailer hitch was on a Nissan Altima, so doing things like dropping the muffler for the first time took a little courage. The videos were very helpful. It just took a little time because I did it by myself and didn't have a lift. Not a big deal; I have more time than money! Since I currently own a Subaru Crosstrek, I might make a visit to the dealer to give the Forrester as hands-on look.
