How to Adjust the Pivoting Head on an etrailer SD Tow Bar After Dragging

Updated 10/12/2026 | Published 10/11/2026

Question:

Good Morning, I have a etrailer SD tow bar for my jeep wrangler. I have had it a couple years. It has had light use. No issues with it but I did notice it had a slight tilt on the main attachment point to the hitch stock. I have a picture I can provide. Wanted to see if this was ok and is just a result of upward pressure pulling it up. It did drag going into a parking lot and I think that was what did it. Nothing bent.

Hey there Charles.

The etrailer SD Tow Bar # e37ZR has an adjustable pivoting head, so a slight tilt doesn't necessarily mean anything is damaged.

According to the installation instructions, you can loosen the two 1/2" mounting bolts, adjust the head until the tow bar is level with your Jeep connected on level ground, then retighten them to 85 ft-lbs. I've attached installation instructions and video to help with this.

However, since you mentioned dragging it, I'd make sure nothing actually got bent or damaged as that would be a different story of course. Let me know what you find out. Do you have any fun trips planned for the near future.
