Question:
I have a 2024 forest River sierra model SEF391FLRB the GVWR is 16,009lbs and I’m looking to upgrade the pin box from a rhino box to something that will reduce chucking and help with the terrible roads from Chicago to Mesa. What do you recommend? Tow vehicle is a 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 diesel with air ride.

Hi Nick,
To replace your Lippert Rhino, I recommend trying the Curt Helux Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box part # C65MJ. It has an internal spring that helps reduce back and forth chucking and road shock without needing any maintenance like other pin boxes do. The Curt Helux is also approved for Lippert frames so there's no worry about voiding the trailer's frame warranty. It has a weight capacity of 24,000lbs so it can easily handle the weight of your camper, and your camper's pin weight (3,521lbs) falls perfectly in the optimal pin weight ranges of this hitch, so it'll perform its best.
Are you wintering in Mesa to avoid those rough Chicago winters?

I have a Brinkley 3100 I changed my Rhino box to the Curt Helux box best move I have made I seen a big difference in ride & reduced chucking, also things a stay in place in side the trailer I highly recommend changing to this set up.

Works well by taking the teeth jarring shock out of some of rough freeways I’ve driven over. I will see over time how my fifth wheel frame holds up. Two negative issues when backing on uneven ground cab clearance is reduced a little due to spring compression. And I can’t leave my folding hard bed cover down when fifth wheel is slid forward.

Nick, I replaced my Lippert Rhino with the Curt Helux and very pleased with the change. We encountered the “terrible roads” too and towing was a tiring experience. Our vehicle is a 2022 GMC 3500 with the Air Lift system. It was an immediate improvement with the Helux. We also replaced our leaf spring suspension with independent suspension and that with the Helux has made all the difference in making our driving and towing comfortable.
