Thule Rapid Traverse Roof Rack Setup for Leer Truck Cap on Toyota Tacoma

Question:

I just bought a Leer truck cap for my Toyota Tacoma. It has rails installed for a roof rack. The rails are t slot. I already have a Thule Rapid Traverse roof rack system. My question is this. Is there a kit that will permit the roof rack I have to attach to the t slot rails on the truck cap? Thank you

Hey Stan!

Unfortunately, there isn't an adapter kit that will let the Thule Rapid Traverse feet attach directly to the T-slot tracks on your LEER truck cap. The Rapid Traverse system was designed to clamp to a vehicle's roof using vehicle-specific fit kits rather than mount into tracks.

Thule previously offered the Rapid Podium Feet # TH460R with Fit Kit # THKIT3101 specifically for LEER-style tracks, but both of those parts have now been discontinued.

Because of that, you'll most likely need to replace the foot portion of your existing rack with a current track-compatible setup rather than adapting the Rapid Traverse feet.

If you can tell me which crossbars you have with your Rapid Traverse system (SquareBar, AeroBlade, etc.), I can see if there's a way to reuse the bars and minimize how much of the rack you need to replace.

By the way, what are you planning to carry on your roof rack and what year of Tacoma do you have?

@Stanb Yes, two brands that I really like are Yakima and Rhino Rack. Specifically for your t-slot rails, the Rhino Rack # Y01-140B-NT, which comes as a kit and is confirmed by Rhino Rack to fit the Leer truck cap rails. Yakima's parts don't come kitted together, but you can use # Y00427, # Y53TR, and two # Y00221 to fit your truck cap.
