Can the B&W Companion BWRVK3500 Be Used on a Flatbed Truck?

Updated 09/29/2026 | Published 09/26/2026

Question:

I’m wanting to put the b and w rvb3500 on my flatbed and I do have the b and w turn over ball design but I have read that it will not work. I understand about the rails that come with it to fit on a standard bed but I was going to remove them and mount it flush to my bed. I’m needing this style because I need to adjust the height and the flatbed version does not. Can I still use the standard companion fifth wheel hitch on my flatbed?

Hey Lyle.

I understand your thought process here, trying to get a height adjustment option on something that doesn't typically allow it. Unfortunately, I don't want to recommend something B&W hasn't approved. The standard companion # BWRVK3500 needs to be used with its complete # BWRVB3500 base. Those wide base rails are there to support and distribute the fifth wheel load. B&W has addressed this issue, saying one potential solution is to remove the recessed well around the turnover ball to gain additional hitch height. Otherwise, they recommend addressing the trailer side of things such as a pin box adjustment.

Where do you need the hitch head to sit?
