Hey Herb. For a vertical winch that can be operated with an impact driver, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch item # DL11001. This winch has a 2,000 lbs capacity and can be operated with a 5/8" socket or the included handle.

The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch item # DL11001 has a self locking worm gear system that automatically holds the load in place whenever cranking stops. It is made of a steel frame that is powder coated for rust protection and has heat treated steel gears. It measures 7-1/2" long x 6" wide x 6" tall overall and the base is 5-1/2" long x 4-3/4" wide.

The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch item # DL11001 will work with the 1/4" Diameter x 50' Long item # DL24104 Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook or the 50' x 7/32" item # C25ZJ.

What do you plan on lifting with the vertical winch? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

I don't think this winch will work mounted on a tripod with the cranking arm. The cranking arm will be obstructed by the pipe. Of course the impact driver would work. Do you have another option with the cranking arm is on the side of the unit instead of the top. I'm lifting a 55 gallon barrel with 300 lbs of corn. This is a feeding operation for a deer lease

@Herb I do but it doesn't have the impact drill option. The Dutton-Lainson item # DL14996 only has the side crank handle. I've seen those feeder setups they're nice.

@JerredH Herb, I purchased this winch to lift my aluminum dock up out of the water in winter (I'm in New Hampshire) to protect it from ice damage. The dock weighs about 1000 pound and has a hinge at the base at the shoreline, so I lift the outer end up to about 30 degrees with the winch and an aluminum A Frame on shore that ends up almost vertical. The winch worked very well. Slow and steady lift with a large variable speed half inch drive electric drill. The winch worm drive holds the load for the winter with no movement. In my case it's anchored to a concrete footing and pier in the ground, so a very solid base. In you case the anchorage needs to be solid and balanced with no movement.
