Dutton -Lainson Hand winch worm gear Hex Drive. Hex Drive shaft make it easy to use a Hex Nut driver to speed lowering or raising load. Ordered the Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook 7/32" Diameter x 50' Long - 2,500 lbs. that came ready to be installed in the winch. Fairly quick delivery to Guam. 697892

I ordered this winch from etrailer because I bought two new ones from a harbor farbor and they were worthless. This winch is just what it says it is but they didn't tell You just how good this product really is. It has a laminated worm gear and the worm is set at the proper angle to make it run as smooth as it could be. No skipping or popping and very little effort to operate it. I am using it to raise a 10 meter antenna 48 feet in the air and it does it effortlessly and it is raised by leverage . This is the best worm drive winch that I have ever owned and I will be buying more of them. Thank You etrailer. 387503

This Winch is being used on a 50' crank-up tower. Its holding about 350 lbs now for a year. The two tower crank up sections, a ten foot mast of 1-1/4" conduit on top of a antenna rotator with a 26' boom 4 element 3 band beam antenna, a vertical 2 meter antenna, a Sloper antenna, and 3 coaxes and a rotor control cable and grounding. All supported by this winch. Good Job. 303622

The winch worked well for the time it was in service. The telescoping radio tower it was used on was destroyed by a storm in March 8 of this year, so it is currently not in service.

Fantastic product. I use it to raise and lower my 60' rohn 25g tower. With being able to use a drill & 5/8 socket it goes up and down fast. 883106

Installed this winch into the front of my 20ft enclosed trailer. The winch is for the rare occasion that a vehicle or my tractor that I move with the trailer doesn't start. I tested the winch out with my 3000lb tractor and it pulled it up the ramp with ease using my cordless drill & 5/5 socket on the winch. My trailer has an aluminum frame so I was careful to protect it from dissimilar metal corrosion where the steel bolts touch the aluminum. With a snatch block doubling the winch capacity, this winch would easily pull anything into the trailer that will fit in it. You wouldn't want to do it without the cordless drill though... I am very pleased with the purchase. Jameson assisted me with all my questions. 827848

Great product. Just added it to my ham radio crank up tower. Very pleased. Using 5/8 hex and drill motor to raise and lower tower. Much easier. 816795

Ihad the old style winchs on my martin house complexes that I had to wind up and down before I installed the worm drive wenches. I wish I had installed the worm drive once is in the first place. They're so easy to use with my cordless drill. No matter what application you use them for I would always buy the worm drive winch in the future. 801913

I needed a hand winch that will handle a 1000 lb lift for a one of a kind antique engine lift. This winch with the worm drive is ideal for this application. The hex drive will allow for a faster lift with a power drill motor. It is well made by a ISO 9001 certified USA company. Shipping was prompt and price was reasonable. I feel confident whenever I order from etrailer that the merchandise is of the best quality. 779729

Power in a small package. Worked exactly as we hoped but the load was too big for our 3/8 power drill. (We “guessedtimated” the weight). We now have to figure out the next step. 729378

We removed these typical style winches and installed the worn gear winches in their place. I would like to attach a video showing it in action, but this site does not allow for that. Heavy duty appears to be very durable! We are using a Milwaukee 18 volt drill for raising and lowering our deer feeders. We currently have 23 of them in place. You will have to keep the drive oiled and the gear greased. Would love to see the drive gear with bearings. 721521

- DL11001
by:

Excellent product quality. Well made. Especially like the drill attachment option. Could of used more grease on the gears, as it was somewhat sparse. Costs more, but when you are winching 1000's of lbs of valuable product, I would not take any risk using a lesser quality winch that is readily available. Will use it to winch a pickup camper, on a dolly, into the garage. 716947

This winch has a lot of power, very smooth operation. It works great with my 1/2in battery powered drill. cable always winds perfect and tangle free. I use it to pull my 16ft jon boat out of the water on a makeshift ramp. the boat and motor is around 1000 lbs. its a very high quality winch and its made in the USA. 688319

by:

Great product. It is very convenient that the worm drive is self braking. A bit slow because of it though. Detachable handle is handy when you need it out of the way. We set up a 5/8 socket on a wiggle wrench for faster movement. 681353

Great winch. You can count on it to work and work safely. Unlike the dangerous Harbour Freight one it replaced. I use it with a cordless drill attached to a crane, to lift my motorcycle in and out of the bed of my truck. I also used it, anchored to another crane to lift my barn trusses onto my barn. If you use it with the crank it will move slowly, but works quickly with the cordless drill. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. 565240

I have modified worm drive hand winches to accept a socket and they worked but apparently the gears were not hardened and would wear quickly even though I greased them thoroughly. This winch has hardened gears and the meshing of the two gears looks to be more precise. I searched everywhere and etrailer had the best price and free shipping. Haven't installed this winch yet but I'm pretty sure it will out-last the discount hardware store winch, many times over. Also I learned, Don't spin the drill fast because the gears will overheat causing wear. Slow and steady is much better than cranking by hand!!!!!!!! 502793

The winch is a year old and has shown No signs of wear!!! A huge difference in reliability over the cheaper winch I had previously installed. Great Quality winch, Period!!!!!!

I ALREADY HAVE TWO OF THESE FOR RAISING AND LOWERING MY DEER FEEDER BARRELS (350LBS). USING A 18 VOLT DRILL MAKES THE PROCESS EASY AND SAFE, WITH THE AUTO LOCKING FUNCTION. NOW I AM GOING TO USE ONE FOR RAISING AND LOWERING MY 40FT HAM RADIO TOWER. TOTALLY CONFIDENT IT WILL HANDLE THIS WITH EASE. I WILL REVIEW IT WHEN ALL IS UP AND GOING. BEST WINCH I HAVE EVER OWNED. 477902

Ask the Experts about this Dutton-Lainson Trailer Winch

  • Recommended Winch for Lifting Platform in Garage
While you certainly could use a worm gear winch such as # DL11001, I recommend using the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL10976, which is designed for what you are trying to do. This winch can be mounted to your ceiling and you can use Hex Shaft # DL406102 which will allow a drill to crank it, and you'll also want Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook # DL24045. This winch has a capacity of 2,000 lbs which will be more than enough for your 300 lbs of gear.

  • Hand Winch that Can Be Powered In and Out with Power Drill
For a trailer winch that can have a power drill attached to it so that it can be powered in or out you'd need a worm gear winch like the part # DL11001. Then for a 50 foot long winch cable the part # DL24104 would be a great option as well.

Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL11001 does not come with a cable because they want to leave the options open for people to choose the size and length that works best for them. For 7/32 inch we have: Wire rope # FWC7500100 rated for 5,600 pounds and it is 50 feet long Wire rope # DL24045 rated for 2,500 pounds and it is also 50 feet long Wire rope # DL24047 rated for 2,500 pounds...

Yes, the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch with Hex Drive # DL11001 that you referenced could be mounted vertically like on the post that you referenced. For a worm gear winch that you can use with a strap instead of a cable I recommend # DL11002. You could then use strap # DL24242. You will need to add the hex shaft, # DL406102, in place of the standard shaft to use a variable speed drill with the winch. Worm gear winches are slow and you are bound to get tired moving the load even a few feet so a drill is the way to go. Your 18 volt drill should be more than enough to lift the load. I do not recommend an impact driver because it is...

  • Winch Recommendation for Lifting a 200 lb Boat 10 or 12 ft With a Drill Option
The Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Winch, # DL11001, will work great to hoist your 200 lb boat. The hex head allows you to use either the included handle or a heavy-duty 1/2 inch drill. Worm gear winches are great for hoisting objects because they do not have a free wheel option and the load cannot reverse the direction of the winch.
