Replacement Brakes for 2006 Arctic Fox 29-5t

Updated 09/30/2026 | Published 09/25/2026

Question:

Good afternoon, Trying to determine replacement brake/pads options for a 2006 Arctic Fox 29-5T 5th wheel by Northwood Mfg. If I am correct in my research these should be 7000 lb Dexter Axles. I have picture I can send of the axle with the tire removed if that helps. It is interesting that the Axle nut cover plate is stamped with Ner R Lube. This makes really no sense since that would be the method to remove the drum itself. Are you able to determine the replacement pads or full brake assemblies for this RV and what you have available to purchase. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Hi Robert, welcome back! Assuming you do have 7,000 lb axles with 12" x 2" brake drums and a 5-bolt brake flange, you can use the etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-7-SA. If you want to stick with Dexter the Nev-R-Adjust Brakes # 23-464-465 will also work. The Nev-R-Lube hubs don't require a different brake assembly so these will be compatible with that hub.

If you aren't sure about the axle capacity, send me a picture of the axle tag and I'll be able to confirm this through Dexter.

Did you ever decide on air bags for your F-250?

Robert I have a 41 ft Geand design fifth wheel. I have the 7000 lb axels as well. I recently replaced my brakes with the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust brake assembly. My shop installed all 4 in about 3 hours or less. They work great. You do have to break them in before they are working 100%. It took a couple of trips to break them in. Very happy with them

@TomM appreciate you sharing your experience with the Dexter brakes. The break-in period is definitely worth mentioning since they will continue to improve as the shoes seat against the drums.
